I been devoting allot of affection to the 880sq the 782 was moping... I pulled it out today and gave it a good look over.

Pulled the almost 6# trigger apart, stoned contacts and changed out the main spring.

Then I measured the stock for a pillar as wood was severely compressed from 30+ years of snugging... Made and epoxied in a .800" 1/2 dia pillar.

Its drying now. Feels far more stabile in the stock. But with only a single action screw. I need to bed the tang area for stability.

That reminds me... I've been neglecting my 917v... has a nice 4-12 weaver on there, and is a tackdriver. Just a fun toy for plinking, and need to take her out to the grain fields.

I started into my Marlin 782 22WMR last week.

IMG_3518.jpeg

She is a long time favorite. But isnt my first. Sold that one. No idea why... This one was reason I bought the other one. It was a childhood friends. He bought it after getting out of High School 1978. I shot it many times before we traded. He wanted my Sts Marljn 17 HMR & I didnt. ;) I did like that 782!!

Anyhow its never been a great shooter. But looks and feels perfect to me. SO, I decided to try a better scope then the ol Simmons it wore. And found the action screw loose. Looking closer the wood was indented over 1/16". So I pillar bedded it & found some movement. The Barrel was free floated. I also found that the bedding post, was dovetailed into the barrel excessively loosely. I prick punched the bottom of the dovetail post then drifted it back into the barrel but it wasn't as tight as I liked so I removed it, slathered in sleeve tite, lock tite and staked the corners. I filled corners and such with Clay and coated the action in release spray.

These RF's just aint a CF and are not built with there solid bedding. Most using a single action screw. They need that barrel channel contact, to hold things. SO, I hogged out & abraded about 2" in-front of that post. Mixed up some epoxy and coated the channel in thick epoxy. Its drying now. I sure hope it pops out.. Yea I know I say that allot..

I popped it out this evening after dinner! ALMOST 100% perfect!!! Only issue was my ham handed preformance with the dremel. I filled it twice so far with wood filler. But the stuff shrinks badly...

Barrel perfectly centered a d rock solid!

Scope should arrive Monday.
