Webpage redirections

While searching for a Contender front sight [with screws!] I found a Gooble link to a site with an Australia suffix [.au] that said it had [18 or 23 ?] sights complete with screws... Click... Same page, image and contents, BUT... it had a Russia [.ru] suffix...

I think... suspect... this was an auto-generated page, taking the search terms, and on-the-fly, creating a bogus page... Whether the site does have the sights, and is trying to hide the ultimate source, -OR-is just a pure scam site, I dunno.

Is it paranoia if they ARE trying to get you? If something seems too good to be true...

There are several sites you can use to vet an URL.

Copy/past the URL into their search field and you can get a report which will tell you if it has what it takes to be a scam site or has what it takes to seem like a legit site. Other suggestions are valid as well, such as looking up the physical address or calling. If they don't accept a method of payment which offers buyer protection, it's not worth dealing with them even if they are legitimate.

Whatever you do, do NOT click on anything once you start to suspect it's a hinky site.

It might be some folks are over-analyzing this webpage behavior. This one was different, usually when a hijack happens [site redirects you to an unrelated page], the destination page is different. Layout, contents, something you can notice. This page was a spot-on match for images and text. No, I didn't try to order some so I could verify the source...

Most of the time, the site you eventually land on has markedly different contents, you can easily discern "we're not in Kansas anymore". In the past, redirects end up in a screen with a spray of confetti over some prize [like an iPhone] and it wants you to answer a few questions... all totally legit... I must have a dozen iPhones coming right now... The history shows the search page, then six or so redirects... totally normal...

I stumbled on this little gem after the Gooble Al-Gore-ithm decided that's what I wanted. Can I find it again? Dunno. I set Pale Moon to delete history after I exit it.
