Soggy here. Can't seem to lure the cat into the trap. Grey days depress me.
Brett, maybe bait the trap with a little bit of medium rare liver? I've given dogs a bite or two and they'll do dang near anything for me now if they smell liver.

Trying to figure out how to catch a bullet with the least amount of deformation. Figure 1600fps ish. 22 caliber. Milk jugs full of water? But then how many? I can get Kevlar bags from work, not the same weave as the bullet proof stuff. Thinking if I just stuff a couple 5 gallon buckets back to back, full of the stuff.
Might I have half a chance, without spending money?
That's the sixty-four thousand dollar question.

My little house leaves a lot to be desired but it's only about four years away from being mine. Trying hard to become debt free so I can start pumping some cash into a Roth IRA or something like that to go along with our 401K's.
Never forget that Dorothy was right- there is no place like home.

A home is what you make of it, the structure is just a roof over your head.

Oiled sawdust I believe was Franklin Mann's medium of choice. I think you'd want to shoot through something that would cause minimal deformation to the bullet holding the saw dust in place. Myself I think I'd get a cheap length of black plastic corrugated culvert. My local saw mill will let me have all the saw dust I want for free, hardwood sawdust seems to be in fine granulations. Oil, well, waste oil is typically free. I'd use nitrile gloves when searching through the oil sawdust because waste oil is full of contaminants. I'd cover the end of my culvert with cloth to hold the saw dust in and to shoot through.

Warning, this is all hypothetical on my part as I have no empirical data to prove my supositions.

I have used wet magazines (bit harsh) wet news print (better) milk jugs Vgood but can be challenging to actually "catch" as they often veer one way or another. Making up a 2x8 "box" to hold the jugs helps.
Anothe i see folks usung but have t tried is wet soaked tshirts and denum. It stacks well up against a 5gal pail seems to work well with little veering of the bullets.

one ither tip I will offer. Is before ya start spread a large tarp in the ground put the bench on top then the medium on the bench. WHEN the bullet hits the ground its FAR easier to find.
One last requirement.... pics and even video!! WE WANNA SEE!!

I have recovered 45 cal. HP jkt bullets from snowbanks that looked like you could load them again except for the rifling marks, fired from 45/70 and without the rifling marks when fired from a saboted 50 cal. muzzleloader. It might be a little hard to create the pile of snow on demand in June or July.

Used shrink wrap stuffed into a box stops an arrow without damage. I've never tried it, but it might do a good job on bullets.

yep snow is the best.
I pick up a lot of different bullets each spring after the snow melts and I could easily re-run 60-70% of the jacketed stuff if I wanted to.
the key is to not have a sudden stop at the back side of the bullets travels.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
To catch a bullet with the least deformation you want a long tube like affair filled with soft stuff that doesn't compress much. real dry sawdust will do it as will powder snow. Dry rags are reported to work well, but I've never tried it really. anything wet makes it worse IME.

Sick. Gonna try cutting lumber and fixing stuff today, after I figure out where the cows are getting out.

So I got the second shot Thursday morning. I started feeling the feverish type muscle aches at Noon that day.
48 hours later, still have these feverish type muscle aches :(
...and there is an Auction today, that'd I'd like to go to. A nice looking, low miles '98 Ford F150 4x4...that'd be a sweet replacement for my Chevy 3/4T 2x4, if the price was right.

Well that one way to get rid of all those old playboys. By the way you should hide those in a dry place. The mould aways covers up the best parts. LOL.
Sorry just could not resist. You just put yourself right out there for it.
Any how a lot of good info from you guys.
Looks it will end up an all day project, so think I will just shoot today and take a shovel and a rake with me, mine some lead in the area they hit.and hope for the best.
But Definatly will have to develope something for the club.
Thanks guys

Course I could always send a few to fiver, he probably still has a snow bank or two, some where.
I would just have to wait till June to get them back after all the sow melts on fiver mountain.

Spent 35 years in a house that was less than 1400 sq. ft. and on a postage stamp sized lot. Raised three sons in that house. You do your best with what you can afford, teach your children financial responsibility and take pride in knowing that you're a burden to no one. In addition to raising 3 very intelligent and responsible sons, I earned a pension and zero-premium medical ins. for myself and Mrs. smokeywolf for the remainder of both of our lives.
