Most modern "lead free" solder is 96% tin and 4% antimony. I always go through the bargin bin at the Home Depot and Lowes just looking for solder.All the solder around here is lead free. I might as well use the linotype. ?? Appreciate any advice.
Thanks you for your very informative reply..Lino is 4-12-84. Three pounds of lead pipe, if pure lead would give you four pounds of 1-3-96. In reality, the lead pipe probably has at least 1% of antimony to make it easier to form from lead ingot into lead pipe.
If you still want to know the result of your original question, divide the tin by 5 since you will end up with 5 pounds of alloy. .8 - 2.4 - 96.8. Again, there will likely be some stray antimony in the alloy.
