I will be testing the PB version over the next week while camping. I loaded some in 30-30 and 300BLK.

Ben a question from the peanut gallery. Please.
When using a double cavity mold, but only using 1 of the cavities. Do you find you have to cast faster to keep the mold at whet ever temperature you find that casts the best bullets? Or do you fill both cavities and put back all of the bullets you don't want this time. GC vs PB

I run both cavities.
When the sprues need cooling, I use a wet sponge.

When my sprue needs cooling I PM Rick, he acts like a wet blanket!:(

Do you use a fan when casting Ben?

Wait, girlfriend? Are you cheating on John's dog?

I should be nice to Rick, I learned a ton from him.

OK...the serious answer..:confused::confused::confused::confused:
I use the rear cavity..it's easier to cut the sprue and i don't have the problem of flashing around the base..
I use a fan to cool the mold and sprue..
I can usually cast as fast as I want...
So yes the mold gets plenty hot using one cavity provided you cast relatively fast..

Jeeeeez ..someone has to be responsible on this site...:)

Ben,

I picked up the gas check version of this mould ( NOE 311-188 Hunter FN ) and although it is a flat nose, NOE notes that it is for use with the 308 and 30-06, no mention is made of the 30-30. Do you think there is a flat enough nose to use in my Marlin?

I'm not Ben. But i do cast with one cavity only, don't need an awful lot of bulletsbut no you don't need to cast faster BUT YOU DON'T WANT TO ADMIRE WHAT YOU JUST DROPPED TOOOOO LONG. Dan

The point is awfully small in dia.
I'm not certain that I'd trust it in a tubular mag.

Ben better check the mold storage cause I could almost swear he already had this one, in one configuration or another. Maybe I'm mistaken.

I'm not going to admit to buying more than one copy of the same design because I forgot I had it...:embarrassed:

I definitely have the mould !

I'm just not certain that I'd want to put it in a tubular mag. 30/30.

Have that mold in 3 cav, GC. Great bullet. With my melt, they drop right at .314, and size well down to .310. I size and lube to .313 for my old p14, and my Mosin Carbine, and .310 for my 308's. It is sort of a toss up as to wither I prefer it or the 299, that shoots equally well. As to tube mag, you can always just make it a two shooter. Adequate for MOST hunting situations. I have been shooting shart pointed hard cast bullets in an old 94 30-30 for years as a two shooter. It is important to think about what you are doing and not load a third.
