It was interesting. This joint was hoppin.Pretty much Fiver, they had left it alone....this is how we roll thinking.I'll always be more of an 1828 type, but it was fun.
The interesting part was more about the geography. We rolled down, and N out of the mnts to what, appears to be a little getaway place for folks coming SW out of DC.
Oh,I get it....folks work hard and play hard and need to chill on the weekends.Even wifey said something though, which whilst brilliant in her field, isn't always tuned in to "normalcy's" outside that cone of fire.Had sort of a Hemmingway Capstick Alfred(Hitchcock) vibe going on.....if I'd been there on a sportbike,we'd-uh blown out of there pronto, too many tourists. But by car,and with co. and situation....the air was thick, like someone just got drug off into the bush by a Lion or something?Wifey noticed the "something" part....so,good for her.
I spend right much time in historic downtown areas. Some pretty gauldang big mkts,Richmond and Baltimore being favs. The latter especially so,in the shadows, literally,of the Ravens foosball stadium is/are several extremely important buildings where some highly respected mid 19th century furniture was produced....then you drive 20 blocks uphill to an upscale art museum and see the dang pcs.Which considering THAT geography.....is pretty durn weird.Further, the fact that the curators wouldn't dare venture, even if they knew, down to where the chit was built?I,because of construction background and in general just a "colored"(deep tan/red)....pretty much NOT a target in this jungle, coming and going in peace.A curator would be fresh prey.
So not the least bit confused or out of place in a downtown.....just sayin, that town yesterday had two and 1/2 groups of folks visiting. We were the 1/2,which is normal....most folks from the country don't look for tourist'y areas. It was the other two colliding....locals making money off the big city type.In an Orwellian,oh my goodness sort of way.Just interesting.
Edit to add....it wasn't "Harlottesville".That's got to be one of the gauldang funniest "hotspots",at least in Va.It isn't about statues....it's the traffic.Yup,nothing to do with ANYTHING you heard/saw/think.It's a bloom'n cluster.... of mismanaged infrastructure, typical college town BS.And YES,have worked on many historic college campuses.Heck,my uncle was the head knocker engineer at UVA's historical building dept for 20 years.Screw Harlottesville.
