I’ll go ahead and load 20 rounds and see how they shoot in my Marlin 1985 topped with a Redfield 2x7 scope.

That's a nice looking bullet. I have an 1895 that I've only shot a few factory loads in so I will watch this thread with interest.

My go to load with this bullet is 42gr of 3031
Sized to .460" it cut holes at 50 yards. I need to try 100.
I will with this load and the 3031 next time out.730 group.jpg 831 group.jpg 460-405-v.jpg

The thing about that 24gr load is it’s so gentle on the back end. I think your going to be pleased.

Yes!
My 1895 is a pussy cat with the 24 gr of 2400 load. Mine will go 2" or so for 5 shots at 100 group after group. I rarely shoot any other load.

That 42gr 3031 load is pretty tame too. Maybe not like the 24 2400 load but it's not like 51gr of 3031. That just hurts....

40 grains of 3031 behind a 535 grain Postell in my 13.5-lb 45/90 is painful enough, I can't imagine 51 grains under a 405 in a Marlin.
