.280 Rem. Mauser 98

I have had this one in the gun safe for " too long ".
Time to get it out and shoot it.
The rifle is a custom 98' Mauser , .280 Remington.
The barrel is new and is super accurate.
The rifle is currently wearing a Lyman 48 Rear and a " High Vis " red bead front sight .
The rifle has a Timney Trigger set to exactly 1 lb. with zero creep or over travel.
I did all the wood working, stock finishing, glass bedding, free floating , etc.
I'm VERY happy with the rifle.
This one is walnut and steel, NOTHING ELSE.
As far as I'm concerned, the .280 Rem. is the 7 X 57 mm on steroids.
The .280 Rem. is a very powerful cartridge !

There are a lot of photos below. This rifle took about 1 1/2 yrs. to complete.
There isn't a single open pore in this wood.
I'm proud of it ! !

That right there is the epitome of the bolt-action rifle in my eyes.

That wouldn't happen to be the one in your old avatar elsewhere would it? That avatar got my attention and was a dead giveaway that you were someone to pay attention to when posting.

The stock is first class all the way, Ben. Absolutely beautiful.

Family has been making custom rifles for over 50 years and the wood to metal is first rate, surprised you did’t use a banded front ramp to keep that tropical theme entact. Certainly is nice workmanship, sir.

Very nice work, and a great cartridge. Only thing wrong is the bolt handle and cheekpiece are on the wrong side. ;)

Ben,
The first time I contacted you many moons ago to buy a mold from you I also mentioned your avatar. That was over on the other site but that avatar just stood out. Very nice rifle!

Brad,

The stock ( not the entire rifle ) has been appraised at $800.
You see fiddle back in the butt end or the fore end, but not very often all over the stock.

I would put the stock BLANK at more than $800, and the whittling and finishing at near priceless. Only problem with that rig is it's too purty to tote through the woods in the rain!

Ian,
When I take this to the range, I am very cautious about who handles it.
As to dragging this one through the woods, .......NOT WHILE I OWN IT.
