312299 PB load data

waco

Springfield, Oregon
I just sized and lubed up 15 NOE 312299 bullets to test in my Rem. 700 .308
I'm looking to keep these at or under 1400fps
None of my load manuals show this bullet at these velocities. My faster powders on hand are
Unique
Universal
2400
Redot
700x
4198
SR4759
Any help would be great! Thanks in advance.

try the 314299.which you probably won't find data for in the 308.
lyman couldn't make 314 in diameter so they just changed the number to 312 to slow the phone calls down.

1400 fps....
11grs red-dot,or 700-x
13grs of 2400...recommend a filler [and drop to 12]
16grs. 4759
10.5 unique
20grs. 4198.. may or may not need a filler along with the associated powder drop.

5.5gr red dot, I ran 4.5- 6gr with 5-5.5 offering the best one hole plain base load. Then I noticed some position sensitivity causing fliers( real, not in the group fliers & they could be eliminated by tipping the rifle), so I started playing with tightgroup.

Did the same rundown w/tg 4.5-6gr, w/same results in both 308 & 3030, except zero position sensitivity. I load those by the thousands. They perform the same from -10-103 degrees. So my recommendation would be 5-5.5gr of tg. That usually puts you in one hole @900-1100fps.

I've shot a lot of 4759 in the 308 but never went below 18.0 gr, which would be around 1800 fps. Should work well down around 16 gr, be interesting to find out at the least. Much over 19.0 gr and my groups started to open up.

EDIT: Left a word out . . . Fixed

American Select powder might be worth your time ?
The " 331 " that you see below is similar to your bullet but heavier.

My shooting friend Bryan and I loaded 20 rounds up for his rifle and fired them in 10 shot groups at 50 yards. He fired 10 rounds , I fired the same load with 10 rounds at 50 yards also.

WOW ! ! We were both impressed , Needless to say that Bryan will be loading much more of this combination in the coming weeks.

Here is the plain base 311331 sized .311" and lubed with Ben's Red and rolled in 45 - 45- 10 , IT IS A SHOOTER ! !

I know both you and I don't talk about velocities very much!
We find a load that shoots and that is the load!
If we figure the velocity on that above target load of 8.4 grains Am/ Sel I doubt it would be / or maybe make 1200 fps
That is something you thought me a while ago!

Jim ,

Exactly.
When I'm trying to shoot tight groups at 50 yards with plain base bullets , I go by group size a lot more than velocity .
I'm a casual shooter not a ballistician.
I go by what my eyes tell me .

So 10 and -0.5gr Unique only did so so for me at 50 yards. Think I’ll try some Redot next.
5 shot group was 10gr, 10 shot group was 10.5gr.A6398C8F-7DF1-4987-B980-19E9C7976046.jpeg80F4E492-0859-40CF-9F16-FC19CD577048.jpeg

Maybe Ben is just a better shot?:headscratch:

Walter, those groups are pretty damn good. You are in the range of look st the bench setup too. Nothing wrong with those at all.

It would very interesting if you applied your normal ladder load development process to the low velocity trials.
