400 Legend

400 Legend cast bullet load data ? Bought this EABCO 20" contender barrel then found out you can't find any brass so had to buy loaded ammo just to get the brass & only found 1 place (Buds) that had any. If this don't change this round is probably going to be dead before long. Any load data will help ease the pain, Maby. :sigh:

I have a few videos on my set up. I have a few molds and so far Hodgdon has data for one coated cast bullet.

Pretty easy to extrapolate data. You have large margin in in a encore. This Cartritage loaded light for AR use.

.401. But its a sampling. I dont have barrel (or gun) yet to know bore. But it is supposed to be .400. Factory Bullets I have are .399.5/.400.

Just curious, I read in a gun magazine review that it took .4005 diam. bullets. Reason I remember this is when I first read article I thought it said diam. was .405. I thought I was going to have to buy a mold for a 40-65 then size the crap out of it. One reason I bought this caliber in the first place is I already have 185 & 205gr. 401 Arsenal molds & a Lee push through .401 sizer that I had bought for A 10mm long slide 1911. It was a big relief when I reread article and saw it was .4005.

Yes sir!

I also have three 200g molds. But, I wanted a bit more weight in the 400. So I ordered a 265g Accurate and then a NOE 245g mold.

I looked it up on their website & it said wait time is 8 weeks. so if you get tired of yours or decide you don't need it I'll buy it.

CW my RCBS bullet puller came yesterday, Man does thing work great compared to the hammer. Pulled the Legend bullets & looked at the powder, it looks just like 1680. filled a Legend case level with 1680 & it weighed 46.3gn. did the same thing with powder out of loaded rounds & it also weighed 46.3gn. Would you trust it to be 1680. I don't know of any other powder that's as fine grained as 1680 that you would use to fill that case to the base of the bullet.

I would absolutely not!

Far far too many variables for a just a visual and volume comparison.

But 1680 is probably a viable choice!

Hodgdon has data for a few kinds of bullets and powder.

If you dont have LMK Ill PM You a pic

I almost had My rifle!!! My dealer was offered one last week but it was sold before he could secure it.

CW is right and while a visual identification of powder is chancey at best, here's a site that gives you some references.
I've been following this crowd and their infatuation with the 40's, but my 40 is a wildcat 405 Win Encore barrel designed to use brass from the
30-40 Krag or 303 British
I'd be inclined to find a flat base mold that drops a .412" around 265 to 285 gr.
I've been shooting 300 gr. jacketed bullets and I'd like to groom my load for less felt recoil
Thanks, guys.
