Been shooting my bisley 45 colt, alot this fall.was thinking about how special that gun really is.the mp 270 mold is incredible,,and the large hp pin, gives a 267 gr lubed bullet.i shoot it at 1150 f.p.s.,,per john Limbaugh hs6 load,,and it shoots consistent 1.25 groups,at 25 yards, shoots flat to 50 yards.
I have a herd of handguns, but if i only could have 1,,,this would be it.

I had two at one time; an older Smith 625, 4" and a Old Model Blackhawk 5.5" (started life as a 7.5" but someone had ported it early on and I only want TWO holes in my barrels - on in and on out).

Love the cartridge and loved the guns. They lost out to the 44 Special, because there was no "pocketable" 45 Colt when I started thinning my herd. Otherwise, as much as I love the 44 Special, the 45 Colt is right up there too. Right pleasant to shoot 250s at 1 to 1.1kfps and plenty of power for anything I'd ever run into.

A VERY enjoyable cartridge and excellent choice.

I used to load some warm to hot loads in 45 Colt. These days I use a 454424 over 6 gr of Red Dot In the Model 25. Thea Ruger BH and Marlin get an old group buy 300 gr rnfp over 10.5 gr of #105 surplus powder. Runs 900+ in the revolver and 1150 in the rifle.

The 45 Colt is a VERY capable caliber, and it always has been. The caliber is 148 years old, and shows no signs of going away. Carried in one of the Ruger Blackhawk or Redhawk variants, the caliber's full potential can be reached safely and comfortably.

I like Lyman #454424 run at about 1000 FPS from my Bisley Blackhawk's 7.5" barrel. In the big Ruger, the recoil is docile and the loads are WAY ACCURATE. 11.0 x Herco and CCI #300 primers prompt this along. In a Uberti Cattleman x 4-3/4" I once had, I dialed the powder back a bit--8.5 x Unique or 9.5 x Herco gave ~800-825 FPS, which wasn't abusive to shooter or revolver. These same ballistics are a sweet spot in my S&W 625 in 45 ACP now.

That 3.5” barrel Walter?

Mine is 4 5/8” and I find that to be about perfect for carry.

I love the .45 Colt, but I have rarely loaded it hot, never saw a need.

I was in a LGS the other day and noticed a Charter Arms Bulldog in .45 Colt. I didn't realize there was a "pocketable" .45 Colt until then. I like the Bulldog .44 I have, might need to go wheel and deal for that one.

A 5 shot 45 Colt would be as nice to haul about as our 5 shot 44 Specials.
Under 20 feet there is no need for 1000 fps. 850 fps pushing 250 -270 grains of soft lead was sufficient before my grandfather was born and still will get the job done.
But for bashing eatable 4 legged critters it gets hard to decide whether the 45 Colt Dan Wesson or the Ruger Bisley goes out....

yeah,,, CW.
he did go out pretty much like he come in.
except for that stupid Zip pistol he went out with, WTH was that all about.
it sucks he just decided to close things up like that.
he, i guess, had proved his point, but in doing so was making a lot of gun owners quite happy with his quality products at a reasonable price point.

you know, now that i think about it i don't remember anyone ever mentioning anything about their customer service.
good, bad, indifferent,,,,, nuthin, like it was never needed.
