Accurate 2520

Has anyone used this powder in a semi-auto?
From what have been reading, it looks like a very good powder for 308 and 30-06.
I am wondering how it would work in the M1A and the Garand's.
I would love to hear what you guys think of this powder.

I've always stuck with the 4895s in the Garand. Might be alright for m14/ar308 type situations... check some of the CMP forums for its use in the Garand.

Somewhere along the way of my reloading 30-06 (for bolt action guns), I switched from IMR4350 to AA2520. Me and my bolt guns were very happy with the switch. Then one day my neighbor and I work out a swap, which included me loading some 180gr Silvertips for his 30-06 Rem model 742. I used the AA2520, he wanted the same load as Winchester puts in their factory loads. Well, we all know what happens to most 742 Remingtons with heavy and hot loads of 30-06. Guess who got the blame?
.
I realize this is no help to the OP, or anyone else wondering about AA2520, but it's my only experience with semi-auto 30-06.

I looked up my loads for 308W with AA2520, which is a ball powder. Best results were with LR magnum primers. Meters whole lot better than stick powders.

When I shot XC highpower with my 308 bolt gun, I used a reduced load at 200. 38 gr 2520 & 168 SMK. Nice light recoil load for offhand & rapid. Much better control of the rifle recovering from recoil. Then I went back to my regular load of 42 gr 4064 & 168 SMK for 300 rapid. I only had to come up 1/2 minute on my sight instead of the usual 3 minutes from 200 to 300. So my cheek weld was the same. Really worked out nicely for me.

2520 really meters nicely. Set your measure and it's consistently within +/- a tenth.

No problem in my 308 M1. But I used the standard 4895 load in that.

Some shooters have reported that 2520 was heat sensitive with full loads on a hot day. I only used it for my reduced loads @ 200, so I can't comment on that issue.

Hornady publishes a nice pamphlet just for service rifle loads. It has 2520 loads for the 223 & 308, but only one load for the 30-06. Check it out.

I have not been able to locate this service rifle pamphlet.
Do you have a link to it?

They were handing them out at Perry several years ago. Hornady factory reps were on commercial row. They haven't been there the last few years.
Might want to give them a call.

For giggles pulled up the hodgdon reloading data for m1 garand service rifle... doesn't show 2520... even pulled up the 308 service rifle loads, and that powder didn't come up. Just an fyi...

This is off Hodgdon site. I just plugged in one set of variables...............308W, 168 grain bullet, and 2520 powder. Myself, I prefer Accurate's Number one reloading manual. One of the few manuals that give data for cast bullets, in addition to jacketed.

Thanks John.
You mentioning the Accurate manual #1, reminded me that I inherited an Accurate manual from my late Father-in-Law.
It's manual #2 but it has everything I need.
The fact I had that manual here had totally slipped my mind and it wasn't with the rest of my manuals so I didn't see it.
