Alliant American Select for cast bullets

Is there a lot of use for American Select for reduced rifle or handgun use with cast? The Warehouse in our town has a 8lb jug for $118.95. Seems to be slightly slower burn rate than Red Dot/Bullseye, more in the Green Dot range. Do many/any use it for cast? I've seen a very few revolver loads published for it but that's all. The price is right if there is a good use for it. I know some trapshooters use it for handicap loads, but I haven't been shooting as much trap lately.

at that price I'd buy all they had and ask for more.
A/S is good in cast bullet loads, shotguns, and pistols.
it's not common in my area but I keep some [jugs] on hand as my holy crap ain't no one got no powder and I need to load some 45 acp/9mm/12ga shot shells/44mags/30-06 and on and on backup.

Thank you to all who responded with their experience with this powder. Looks like an 8# jug will be coming home with me.

that's the going rate for pistol powders around here too JW.
either I pay it flat at the club, or pay 159 plus tax at the sportsmans warehouse.
in these days dollars 20 a lb isn't really all that bad, at least it isn't rifle powder prices.

Got to do some shooting with American Select this morning at the range with my GEW 98 Mauser 8 mm
Nice light accurate loads....shot about 60 cartridges very mild conditions ( for a change) No wind and blue sky!
My GEW 98 with it's 29.5" barrel is a good candidate for my Old Redfield receiver sights and a Lyman 17A globe with aperture insert
Very nice sight picture
Used My two NOE bullet favorites for the 8mm: Al's 130 gr FN and his version of the Ranch Dog ( normal lube groove!) both are real hammers and cut a nice target hole!

I use it with HERCO load data and it does quite well in my 8mm-06 with 175gr Louverin cast lead along with my single shot 357-44 B&D rifle with 180gr and 158gr bullets.

The NOE bullets web site had some interesting recipes and I grabbed one using American Select for 45ACP and so far I am liking it a lot. I have plenty around as it is the best for 7/8oz 12 gauge skeet loads.

I am told that it can be used for 38 special,125 grain cast low power for cowboy action shooting. If you know where then please share!

Thanks
Francis

Any of the Hercules shotshell powders between Red Dot and Herco have HUGE potential in a lot of standard-pressure handgun applications. I have zero time-in-grade with American Select, but if it behaves like Green Dot--and I could get an 8# caddy at $15/lb., I would snag that stuff in one hot second.

I was shooting Amer. Select in .30 cal. rifle with cast bullets before a lot of cast bullet shooters ever caught onto the concept . I have found it to be a super accurate, very economical propellant.

Never had a single problem of any type with the powder.
Any yes, ....it burns very clean.

On the Ammo Guide website, I have found some American Select data for 45 ACP that's a keeper for my Lee 200 grain TL bullets. Good loads for Lee 158 grain TL in 38 spacial and some promising loads for light 357 Mag using the same 158 grain LEE to shoot out of my Henry Big Boy.

thanks

Just picked up a pound at my local for testing out.... looks like Herco/Green Dot/similar is what I want to use for load data... correct?

Thinking PB 30-06, 303br, 7.62x54R, etc...
