What do you think I would have if I take 5 lbs of my lead pipe and add a lb of pewter as I have no tin. Rain is keeping me away from the range. I might as well do some bullet casting. Or what do you recommend ??

Or add a touch of linotype. I want it to be around 8/9 so the nose will be smaller so I can seat the bullets out farther.. sorry for all the questions.

Johnny, I would have to look up the content of pewter in order to answer your question. But you can do this as well. All this info is out there on the web. Once you know the make-up of pewter, it just a matter of some simple math to answer your question.

Roughly 15.42% TIN 1.0%ANTIMONY 83.3% LEAD, EST BNH 14, 8#lead, 1#pewter would be roughly 12.2, COWW are about 12

20 to 1 is 20 lbs of lead and 1 lb of tin.
pewter is about 85% tin [minimum]
20-1 is the same BHN as ww alloy with a little tin thrown in [i know you didn't ask that jus sayin]

anyway the less other stuff you have in a lead alloy the smaller the bullet will be.
your only gonna get about .002- diameter change from lead to lino. [16% 'other' stuff]

I don't use wheel weights. Can't get them here. State law I guess. I checked several places and can't get them.probably buy from roto when I run out of what I have.
Somebody has buckets full squirreled away in a shed somewheres near you. They'll be covered in dust and bird crap and the old fart that has them will talk your ear off. The fun part is huntin' 'em up!

I know this because I have found stashes like this and I have a mega stash. I know another guy that has a few thousand pounds and now that he has gone almost strictly antique guns and BP he is short of soft lead and doesn't use WW any more.

Trouble is there is an near expiration date on these old duffers and their families likely don't cherish Dad's stash of pre-American collapse WW and will just get rid of them.
