I don't know Brad! I think Paul's went to the bottom of an Alaskan River quite some time ago!
Jim
That was the 222 Rem.
Just found out that he sold his 30-30.
Oh well, he still has the Win 94

Paul sent me an extra 30-30 magazine he had laying around after selling the 30-30.
It is actually a 30-30 / 22 250 mag.....my rifle is older and has the 30-30 mag that says "patent pending"
I'm thinking Paul's was from a 340 B Had to re-bend the follower to work in my rifle ( it kept point the nose es of the 30-30 shells up too hight to get into the chamber! I find them to be fascinating rifles
Yes the barrel thread and nut design were the first style Savage came up with....Today nut and tread do not fit! i was offered a custom savage barrel as a gift from a benchrest shooter but we found it would fit

Poking fun but I bet at least 3 of us have a very clearly marked CLIP .
I'm pretty sure the 22 250 meant to say 225 , no ?

A question for anyone that owned one in 222 or 223. Did you have problems having to seat bullets deeper than normal for other guns? My 340's in 30/30 had to have most bullets seated deeper than usual. To cycle through the action.

I had one of each, I don't recall having to seat 'em deep? But I always load to match the gun (and set the COAL for the gun), so I wasn't trying other ammo in the Savages, nor did I try the ammo I made for the savage in other rifles.

So, I read two writeups last night from same author. Very very informative and best source for history I have read. I feel far more informed now.

This rifle is going to be made between 1950 & 1960. Because introduction and Roll mark saying Chicopee Falls. MA. Its a earlier "B" as some of the characteristics tell us this. Plus no SN place it closer to 1950, then 1960. Later guns had caliber designations and sn. This has neither. The "B" in general had stampings positions changed. Mine has none denoting earlier receiver. No one has bubba'd it. Meaning no holes drilled. But it was aparently rusty as all finish from one side was polished off. I have the receiver in rust remover now. It wont have any bluing remaining when I remove it. But barrel is in the white as well. So both will need a finish later.

Most all of what I have ordered should work. I am concerned about assembling the fire control. As the author repeatedly said it was not recommended. It was assembled with pins that had the heads riveted to stay together. Trigger work is very Sketchy. Easily deemed unsafe with inexperienced alterations. Stoning contacts is all thats recommended.

I may need to make a few needed prts as its said that no one has them. Numrich bought all remaining parts so yes THANK you Actichy!! I have been to numrich/ gun parts more than a few times. They are near my property in upstate NY. West Hurley is there location. But that was YEARS, DECADES ago. What they have left is the question. To the best if my knoledge, they are only takin ninternet sales and many weeks to fill orders. The gubner wont allow there opening. Im not in a rush, but sometimes impatient :9: But once I have parts in hand Ill search and order if available.

Fun parts coming!!

Is the 322 the same barrel thread as the 340? I have a friend that shoots benchrest rifles based on the Savage actions and he was going to give me one of his worn barrels for cast bullets but I know the modern Savage barrel thread id a different size including the barrel nut

I got this action all assembled yesterday!!

I stillneed to adjust the pin protrusion a little bit.

But over all not bad. I made a slave pin and that made things allot easier.

Need to set head space. The barrel is chambered but Ill make a cast ta see. Probably rechamber to a "K" just because of case life and easier loading.

I also need to decide on optics so D&T of barrel with some kinda cantilever probably.

A target Spot might be cool If I could find one I didnt have ta mortgage the house ta buy!!! :D

Last will be stocking it. Its gonna be made a single shot.

I wish I could talk you into buying a pint of Mark Lee Express Blue. Sand to 400-grit, blend with a carding brush (or 0000 steel wool), degrease, boil/coat/boil/card about 6-8 times, soak in kerosene for a day or two, enjoy a rich, deep blue like old Colt revolvers.

Did the front band, screw, and mag tube on this one (sanded to 180 on the lathe to match the rough OEM finish):

Did this whole rifle after a rebarrel and polish to fix a long-ago cold blue "restoration" and related rust and bad sanding job:

Yeah, its the last thing I'll do is finish it. I don't know how, yet, I'll do it but the barrels also totally in the white, so I definitely got to do something. Its just a lil further down the list.
Years ago, I made a "bluing" tank one time out of PVC tube and threaded caps. it's more a Parkerizing than a bluing but it worked pretty good and it was easy.
I have t given it alot of thought, I don't know if I'll do that or maybe Cerokote I don't know something.

Im starting Head Spacing the barrel.

The time to blue it is while it's apart.

Down on page three somewhere I put up a brief tutorial on how to use the Mark Lee Express Blue:

I know, I know. Priceless custom rifle on a 97-cent front rest (the jeans leg and sand was free). The cinderblock's only victim so far has been the handguard on my LR-308 when the rifle fell over from a gust of wind. One day I hope to finish the shooting house and put a first-class bench in it.
