Bench grinder rest

I wanted a better rest for my bench grinder than the sorry excuse that it came with.
I looked online and found a rough set of plans for something reasonably simple.
It was a good learning experience on the mill.

Nice brace looks like it would be very good for +-.005 grinding drills and the like .

Want some cheap brand new cutters ?

Ran a ad . Not much interest I guess maybe I asked too much ..... Feel free to make an offer . I don't need much out as I don't have much into them .

Nice! I forget if it's Lee Valley Tools/Veritas or who, but there is a commercial version very similar to that I've been lusting after for years. I finally found the low speed grinder I've been wanting since I saw my first in the late 70's. One of those cast iron geared jobs that weights abotu 75 pounds before you add the motor. White wheel about 2" wide. Runs like 300 rpm with the right motor. Ran like $150.00 back in the late 70's, got this ne out of a friends barn sale for $40. and they thought that was way more than I'd pay. That would make a real nice rest with a good jig for plane irons, chisels and whatnot.

I don’t have a mother guage but plan to make one. Will make something that gives a few different angles for lathe tools. Easy to make a few set for things like 30°.
Slot is .5” wide and .25” deep so my 7075 1/4” plate will be perfect.

Now to learn to drill and tap for 6-40 or 4-40 screws to make them.....

That is a right reasonable price.
I have been making my own thus far with the DRO, some trig, and a couple pin gauges thru carefully spaced holes.

I got some stock cut to size, just need the tap and proper sized screws.

Bill, I told my wife what you said. Her comment, “Get off the damn forum!”

A plasma torch? Sounds fun. But then it leads to oxy/acetylene, stock welder, MIG and so on.
At some point I need to ask my wife what she wants me to get for her in the divorce.....
