This year, the lord blessed me with a book I've been wanting. "The Long Shooters of Peewee Valley" in Kentucky near Louisville. Have seen several but rangingfrom $250 up. Found one reasonanble. Only 300 printed as I recall. Got it and started reading it yesterday. Promises to be a good read. I'll give a book report when finished.
Written in 1912, this group started shooting at a glass jug at 100 yards with pistols along the river during a rainy day. Acheiving success, they moved to the Louisville Revolver Club and became involved with live turkeys. Their success force the shoot promotor to move to 150 yards, then 200 and again they forced him to stop running matches as 200 yards was range limit. Right now they're on the move to the Peewee Valley range and longer distance. Calibers are .38 Special and .44 Special. Guns appear to be factory "match" guns with the old U notch year sights. No indication of accurizing or special tinkering or reloaded ammunition. Interesting read and I'll give a full report when finished. They're success so far is amazing considering the ammunition and equipment.
I'm really amazed how this book made it to Tuscon, AZ from Louisville, KY./beagle

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I'm with Ric, heard about it, never seen a copy for sale! Got to be an interesting story!

ETA- Is it "Peewee Valley" or something more like "Pohwee" or "Pohwea" Valley?

The site of present-day Pewee Valley was first settled as a stop on the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad in 1852 under the name Smith's Station. The name was changed to Pewee Valley on the establishment of a post office by Charles Franklin Smith in 1856. The name refers to the Eastern Wood Pewee.
