Brass Catcher

I don't shoot very much center fire auto pistol.
However , my grandson Trevor loves to shoot my two 9 mm auto pistols.
I quickly grew tired of hunting brass on the ground.
I ask a fishing friend of mine if he had an old dip net that he wasn't using.
He said he had an aluminum one that the net had rotted on.
I said, " Perfect ! ! " , that is what I need.
I took a pillow case and fitted it, put in a bit of stiff wire to keep the back side of the net at approx. a 45 degree angle to help deflect the brass downward.
Works great ! !

I take a cordless drill to the range with the brass catcher.
It takes about 10 seconds to attach it to the side of the shooting bench.

A really loving grandfather would stand there and catch the cases by hand......

Great idea. Nice to have a handgun that has a predictable ejection pattern, isn't it?

If I didn't have that, it would be futile to try and make a brass catcher.
You're exactly right Brad !

I have a 16x20 plastic tarp and some spikes to hold it down. My 1911 uses most of it. My CZ 75B in 9mm throws them all to one corner.

I view it as a form of exercise.

And nobody needs to mess with my delusions.

Nice setup, Ben. Trevor looks good, too, he's had a good instructor! 9mm can be a hand full for a 9-y.o. but no problem for him.

Good idea...I like it. About 25-30 years ago I got tired of chasing brass and made this catcher out of 1/4" hardware cloth and scrap wood...works great for rifle & pistol if placed reasonably close to the ejection port.

Awesome you are getting to shoot so much with your grandson! 5 boys. And they ALL KNOW, when we go to the range, we police brass! I have enough that throw all over, that my only real option is the tarp. Tried the hand strap catcher, miserable fail. bigger one might work, but most times outdoors I have nothing to attach it to.

I use a very large tarp, also, don't shoot semi automatic pistols off a bench......... or even in the exact same position. Weigh it down with rocks, that we seem to have an overabundance of.

Somebody made a commercial version of what Ben
made. My friend lee has one. Think Ben's works
equally well. Love the pink pillow case.

Plastic tarp works for me if I remember it. Thought I was getting low on 40 brass till I found another couple buckets on the shelf this week. Also found a bucket of 9 I'll never use and one of 223 that I don't need. Time to make a scrap run.

Ok, the forum software is going screwy again displaying the wrong photo. In RB's post above I see the pic of Trevor at the bench with the catcher (which made no sense), but when I click on the pic to blow it up, I see full-moon clips arranged as an ankh.....and it made a lot more sense.
