Carbide sizing dies

Thanks for the tip, Tom, I may have to try one of those. I don't mind lubing cases but DO mind dies that over-work my brass and make the cases far too loose in the chamber at the back end.

All I can offer here is that my RCBS 357 Cowboy sizing die sizes my cases to .374 OD, which is just slightly under the dimension at the base "as fired". The 1/4 inch or so above the rim doesn't get toughed by the sizing ring at all.

I used to have the dimensions written down for cases sized down in my old Hornady Durachrome 357 mag sizing die. I can't find it now of course, but I do remember that the case was distinctly tapered from base to case mouth. You could easily see it. I'll have to see if I can find the die again, it's around here somewhere.

I would go back to non carbide sizing dies if I could find them. (41 mag) Trying to open them up was a possible option, other than having a custom one made. bushman

Try the online auction sites. Personally, I'd stick with only Hornady & RCBS, but there are others that would do the job as well. Buy them cheap though, steel sizing dies scratched really easily, and you may have to go through a few sets to find something usable. I still run several sets of Hornady Durachrome dies for sizing autoloader brass, especially range pickups and gunshow purchases, so I'm always looking for more sets for parts. Here's a NOS set of Hornady Durachromes in 41 mag.
