Cleaning auto loader innerds

My XDm 40 needs a bath. I do have a US cleaner, would Ed's red without acetone in the cleaner work without removing all the internal lube or damaging the plastic lower? I've got the brake cleaner & gun scrubber stuff but need a full face shield to use that stuff.

I wouldn't use harsh solvents on plastic. Have you thought about a good swish/soak in hot water and Simple Green? Follow up by a hot water rinse, blow dry, and light spday oil lube. Just thinking out loud, I clean my Nylon AR lowers this way.

Just a quick heads up if you have access to a heated ultra sonic machine it works fantastic 20 min low sonic power then blow dry.

Then drown in Ed’s red after the hot sonic bath blow off the extra and lube wear points and you are done in no time!!

I clean the trigger/sear parts of my XDM's by spraying them with "Gumout" carb/choke jet spray cleaner. I do it over a trash can at arms length, no splash back. Follow up with light oil. Hasn't bothered any of my plastic for several years now.

I would have been in serious Dutch at the time, but I used to run almost boiling water through the lower of an M16 because I wasn't allowed to take it apart. Had the armorer scratching his head a lot and mad because he couldn't keep rejecting it for not being clean when I turned it back over to him. It worked wonders and never hurt the thing. Just rub off the water spots after it dries and no one will know.

I've never been a fan of dousing with lubes because it always seems to seep and drip and worse, collect grunge faster. A needle-like lube applicator, or a wire or toothpick can be used to put that stuff only where it needs to go. Even then, I waste more than I use because I sop up excess with a Q-Tip before it can run or drip where it shouldn't. At the time, when we still used LSA, they actually condoned dousing.

Sounds familiar Jeff - way back when, we cleaned our M14's in the shower. Water as hot as we could get and it would air dry quickly. Then we ran a patch thru it and made sure the action was dry. Then a little GI oil. Never a problem nor any rust. They ran like a top, with the happy switch too.

Switching back to the Ruger .22 dis/re-assembly issue.

I just noticed somebody is selling a Ruger accessory which is apparently a little plate which will go
behind that cross pin and keep the hammer strut from catching behind it. Once you know how to see
if it happened and clear it, seems superflous, but if you have had this hammer strut hangup problem a lot,
it may be worth getting. I saw ads in several gun mags.
