Correctly shaped cast bullets for 45-70 magazine tube?

What kind of cast bullet shape is good for a 45-70 in a magazine tube [like Marlin 1895]?

The easy way out is to use FTX, but $$$...

At large, whereabouts unknown.
The factory 45-70 brass for Hornadys FTX loads are shorter than normal anyway, aren't they? That'll make reloading more challenging, won't it? I always preferred RCBS 458 405 gr mould for 45-70, my understanding is that it was designed specifically for Marlins 45-70, and it certainly feeds like it was. I also used RCBS 458 425 gr FN U bullet for a lighter load. My first cast bullet deer was collected with this bullet. With my 458 SOCOM I now use RCBS 458 300 gr GC design for a light bullet, and Accurates 46-525VG for a heavy from a borrowed mould.

Use a 400-420 gr flat nose and give it enough juice to hit 1600-1700 FPS. It will hit hard enough for anything that needs hitting

458193 is the best all around I have to date in a 1895 .
I have a 462-420 MP with PB& HB pins and PB it wants to go fast .
The 457132 is toooooo long on the nose but shoots well single fed .
I have a Rapine 460-401 that's actually a 250 gr I haven't shot yet .

Any bullet you choose needs to have a nose length less than .455 for an OAL 2.550 or less .

FP over .220 rule of thumb to prevent magazine detonation .
I tried to get a NOE dimensional copy of the 325 TAC-X for a 405 ish with a .220 fp or HP with a Pope style long GC shank or rebated BT . No interest , no suggestions . Whatever .

I use this mold as my standard to judge many others by I have several including ranch dogs.
It by far shoots the best hands down in my marlin guide gun sized .459 of a little pile of 2400.
Here is a link.

I'm so far off what y'all are doing once again.
I got me a LEE like 425-435gr RNFP mold on loan, coat it with 45/45 lube, put on a gas check when I size it to 459, heat them up with a hair dryer throw them back in the cup and add some mineral spirits and shake again.
then seat e'm short enough to chamber in my saami throat when they dry.

it's what I was dealt [shrug] it works, and I didn't have to fiddle with any load development.

I bought a 45M gas check mould from LBT about 20 yrs ago, it’s made for the Marlins.
Weighs 410 grns and have shot several under 1” groups out of my guide gun and a Ruger #1 centennial.
