Do you name your guns?

The subject came up in one of Ian's threads and I didn't want to thread jack posting my question there. But I am curious how many do this. I don't normally but I've got one rifle that just begged for the name "Big Bertha".

It's a VZ-24 converted to 308 and internally suppressed built on a Form 1.

Ok, so do any of y'all have names for your firearms, and is there a story behind it?

Never named a gun. Tried and it just didn't work.
I tend to refer to them by the name the factory saw fit to stamp IN VERY LARGE letter on the barrel.
For a instance in 357 Mag to own GP100, BH, and Marlin 1894.

I have had times where I referred to them by other epitaphs but those are best left unspoken

While I have never named a gun, I do one that has a name. "The Mexican Gun" was made in 1912 by S&W and is a 38 Military and Police. It was purchased in Deming, NM, by a rancher for his daughters to carry with them when riding, because the Mexican border raids were so common at that time. My friends father was given the gun in 1974 by the surviving sister in Los Cruses. She said she and her sister had each fired it 6 shoots in 1913 and they had never shot it again. My friends father shot it some as he was a cast bullet shooter and liked old guns. My friend sold me the gun, as it said it was too ugly to keep. Well it has maybe 75% of the nickel from being in a leather saddlebag for 60 years, but perfect chambers and bore.

That isn't a name, it is a story behind the gun.
Great go and a great story. Too bad all the old ones don't have a known history.

If only they could talk.

All my shooting buddies call it "that ugly "Mexican gun'" so I thought that was name.

True enough.
I didn't word my comments very well. This is a case where the story behind the gun becomes a moniker.

I don't as a rule name my guns, but I do name my vehicles, for the same reason I name some of my ARs: Too many to distinguish. "That old Chevy truck over there" doesn't narrow it down very much at my place. Neither does "That 300 on the rack there".

I've only ever named one rifle IIRC. My Rem.788

I stripped the stock and stained it green.

I named it the "Green Machine"

Note many .. Lastest is a Colt New Service (1907) in 44 WCF I refer to as "ol' ugly". Have had it for 10 years and may never get rid of it.
