Wow. We went to the Sugar River bottoms on Monday, and the mosquitoes woke up when the sun came out. I packed up the Mojo and lit out for the car, Belle came with me. Sat in the car with the A/C going for about 10 minutes, then I shut er down, asked the Chicken Powered Nuclear Fast Attack Brittany to go find daddy, opened the door and zip!
I got out and the old retrobate was about 100 yards down the levee, coming in. I went back to the car, picked up a gun sock for the old man's shotgun, and went back out. Belle was working close for him on the way back.... Anyways, I grabbed his folding chair, pulled the decoy bag off his shoulder, and went back to the car, opened up the rear hatch... Everything loaded up and we left the mosquito hatchery (Wisconsin DNR's sole triumph!).
Today was different, all I expected was overcast, about .02 of an inch... Well, that didn't happen West of here... As we motored West, I could see ground strikes. Old retrobate was sure that we would push through the front. Not so.
As we pulled up to the gate, it was a slow rain. Got up to the spot for the stand and shut down. Belle took out for a run, then came back. Then the rain started to ratchet up. And the lightning.
The rain beating on the roof drownd out the thunder from the lightning. About 45 minutes later it finally tapered off, so I took the little Land Shark off for a short run. Circled around, got back in, went to the farm, dropped off two small ziplocks for the farmer's WI license (paper is for books!), and came back home.
No stopping at Silver Lewis, I still have a bag of cheese curds and a part block of Jalapeno Muenster Pepper Jack...
Stopped at Decatur Creamery by Albany on Saturday IIRC and scored on two Cinammon Snickerdoodle icecream cones plus a LandJaeger for my Brittany.
