Elmer's return

It's well known that Elmer's favorite powder was 2400. In most of Elmer's day his selection of powder was pretty limited compared to today. I often wondered what would be his favorite powder if he had the selection we do today.

So many powders out there now. Lots I have never tried. My handgun needs are covered by Redot, Universal, and 2400 these days.

And I think the 50 Alaskan would be appreciated as Winchester caliber .50 110 /120 brass costs more than a rifle .
The 33 is a fine cartridge ! The Supermags fantastic ! He would like kayaking a river and get towed around by fish on a line. And the 338/06 !! Near as much fun as the 375-06.

Yeah I'm thinking a 50 Alaskan and a nice 4" Ruger 480 SRH would be his style in Alaska. I don't know about a kayak, there's no place but your shirt pocket for your cigar.

Well a canoe flips far easier than a kayak. Our kayak has numerous places to stuff items to include a attached holster that fits a 44 Special nicely under the cowel.

Yeah, yeah, but a small flat bottom has lots of room, room enough for that moose.
I don't like canoes, kayaks are definitely a step up.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I'm willing to bet that Elmer would still stick with 2400. To see some of his writings, the introduction of 2400 was a dream come true for him. The new proper 44 Keith bullet would likely be around 280 grains though. No LBT designs for him though, the grease grooves wouldn't hold enough beeswax and pump grease bullet lube.

I think he would say, oh, the 45-70 is still around, then, what the heck is a platform.

My bet would be how would still be wrapped around the 44 Magnum. What ever, he would also be wrapped around bullets of his design. I'm not too sure he would adapt to change very well. For the long guns it would be the ultra magnums. He could also stick to the old time double rifle rounds. Who knows.

When Elmer liked something, he would doggedly stick to it. If he didn't like something, well he'd stick with that as well.

In the early 1920's he swore off the 30/06. When asked why he replied that he had filed the points off of FMJ military ball ammo and it wouldn't expand or kill game very well. But he did allow that with the 220 grain soft point Peters belted bullets you could kill deer, if they weren't too big.

There is a picture of him and Dick Casull shooting one of the early 45/70 revolvers Casull made. And another of him shooting one of Casull's made 45 Colts with the triplex load of bullseye, unique and 4227, if I remember the powders correctly.

Off hand, I can't think of anything that's appeared in the last 50 years that I either got excited about...
I’ve got so many “Cougar” jokes bouncing around in my head. I don’t even know where to start!
