Federal Gold Medal AR Match SRifle Primer 1K - Oof!

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I've seen worse. I sold some primers earlier this year, but not that high. My biggest gain came from bullet moulds on ebay. Primers can still be bought intermittently from our local sporting goods store, but have nearly doubled in price from the first of the year. I don't think we will even see them as low as $35.00/1K again, they're hovering around $75.00/1K now through conventional channels with purchase limits.

I'm sorry but I do not agree with this.

We WILL see the price of primers drop to something close to the cost of production & distribution when IDIOTS stop paying inflated prices.
Right now, the price of primers isn't being set by the cost of raw materials, manufacturing, and distribution - it is being set by market forces driven almost entirely by consumers willing to pay ridiculous prices.

The cost of primers will go down when people stop paying insane prices.

I think part of the enthusiastic price is the "AR Match" part. Just like adding "tactical" to anything makes it spendy. Makes me wonder, I thought AR primers were thicker to help prevent slam-dancing, er, slam-fires. One heckuva dichotomy, more rugged, yet consistent performance...

About two weeks ago, I saw a bundle on a respected retailer, an Ammomaster press, 1K primers, 500 or so 9mm cases, almost $1K...

Makes sense to me Elric- Federal makes primers that are widely considered the best for accuracy loads. Problem is they are also considered sensitive and therefore a slam fire concern in the AR.
Adding a thicker cup reduces slam fire risk while keeping the renowned Federal consistency.

What is marketing hype to most of us can make A real difference in specific shooting disciplines.

the wolf primers I have will shoot circles around the federals I got, in my AR's.
only sucky thing about them is I have to pick and poke at them to load the primer tubes, the electric tube fillers will tip half of them over.

My AR got fed a steady diet of Rem 7 1/2 for 200-300 yd and a CCI BR4 at 600.
Winchester primers were used until enough pierced to ruin a firing pin.

Really liked those Rem 7 1/2

Federal primers may indeed offer better intrinsic accuracy than do other makes, but I would never know it. You see, in my part of Kalifornistan, two primer makes predominate--CCI and Winchester. Remington primers are scarce, and Federal are non-existent. I'm sure some L.A. area and Orange County shops probably stock them, but out here in The Land Of The Dirt People (That's Orange County arrogance at play) pickings are kinda lean. I make use of Rem #6-1/2 for smaller rifle loads (30 Carbine,,22 Hornet, 32/20) and my current allotment came courtesy of the Reno Gun Show 6-7 years ago. Otherwise, they don't happen here. I have known for a long time that all PPC shooters doted upon Federal #100 primers for their wadcutter loading. Again, they aren't stocked hereabouts. I have "made do" with what is local and obtainable.

For at least 25-years, local primer availability has been extremely scarce, and when available CCI and Winchester have been it. I've never seen Remingtons and maybe six bricks of Federals.

As to the Federal Gold Medal AR Match primers, I was given 500 before I ever owned a small primered rifle.
Some months later I bought the .223 Ruger American. Weird . . .

Not long after the governor's mandated Chinese flu house arrest went into effect, I learned that the local gun store was going to make its semi-annual primer and powder purchase and I requested a brick of the AR Matches, figuring an extra $10 would be worth not having to re-work accuracy loads with a different brand's primer.

I got a big batch of Tulammo AR primers a few years ago and they run really well in everything except the priming equipment. The anvils stand more proud than what my trays and chutes are designed for. And they STINK. UGGG. BUT, I wish now I'd gone ahead and picked up another ten bricks after determining they were good. Down to one brick plus a few hundred loaded.

Ya know what else stinks? Eley 22 LR ammo/powder/priming. I have a couple boxes of some SV HP 40 grainers, and some other Eley 22 rounds, maybe Tenex and some Running Boar marques. Sickly-acrid smell, not really like anything else I've encountered. Nicely enough, my sense of smell pretty much died about 3 years ago, so no further worries on that score.

I like Eley primed .22 ammo, albeit an unusual smell. What I really like about it is that I have never found an Eley primed cartridge, whether from Eley or Aguila, to be missing the prime. Can't say that about Federal or Remington.

Years ago I bought quite a few large and small rifle Wolf and Tula primers. Got some of the best groups I'd ever had. Still have quite a few. Got some S&B during the last shortage, have used them mostly in cast loads so haven't really worked for tiny groups that much. They do work well though.

Federal primers are as rare as hens teeth around here too. You just never see them in any stores or shops. It’s all CCI, Rem., and Win. Some S&B now and again.
