First of the Season

Low 90's forecasted, today in Arkansas. Too hot to do any shooting, let alone casting or smelting. Wife and I headed to the lake to try some Striper fishing. Caught four (18",18", 19", 27) and a 14" Largemouth. Size limit is 20" for Striped Bass and 15" for Largemouths / Smallmouths. So we only kept this one for dinner.

It's great that the fishing is so good, but are there cottontails around to be had? Timber, likes rabbit as much as he likes that tri-tip sandwich in my hand.

Plenty of bunnies. My coon dog the great hunter that she is (in her own mind) just yesterday pulled a couple of baby bunnies out of their den. Never saw the mother and one baby was still alive so I left it there & took the dog away, mother didn't try to retrieve it all night. But yes, bunnies abound along with a wide range of other critters.

Hunting is just as good.....not unusual to see guys like this one. Sometimes in groups of eight at a time.

Been so long since Timber "the Goofy Wolf" has eaten venison, he may not even recognize the smell.
Anxious to see what my 14 year old son can do with a bow and arrows. He just finished an archery program at school and was tops in his class. Used my 50 year old recurve.

Even dozen, Striper's this AM. Kept two (22 1/2" and a 23") for the freezer, plus a 16" Largemouth. Action shut down at 9:00 AM.

Retired life is good.:)

Can't do the recurves, anymore. Can barely draw the compound, especially when it's cold in the AM. Took archery bucks, two out of the three years I've hunted, here in Arkansas. Antler restrictions are 3 points on one side, gun and bow.
