Gas Checks with PC bullets?

before if your size die is clean. I use a larger sizer, PC and then resize. Both work, I just rather clamp on Pb vs plastic. Pus shank is over oversized with PC added.

I do it. Usually seat and then size in a clean push-through die, then coat and size/lube in a base first sizer. Yes, I'm lubing rifle stuff.

I coat then apply the gascheck and then coat again for my rifle applications. I don't bother using a gas check on PC coated bullets for pistols.

I used to put gc on problem lee molds with small shanks. The pc would make sure the gc stayed on.

I first PC, then I use a coat of BLL. I don't GC much anymore with any of my cast, pistol or rifle.

I gas check after powder coating. I've got a couple of powders that I'm trying to use for the 10 mm that react with the powder coating. I'll press on plain base gas checks after PCing.

Ian,
What are your reasons for lubing the PC coated bullets for rifle work? I'm very interested in your findings

Jim i check before PC. My reason is they stay on the bullet consistantly. If i have to break the loaded ammo down the check also stays with the bullet.

When I combine gas checks with powder-coated cast bullets I'm working in the upper range of pressure/velocity. Consistent bore condition is essential for accuracy. Lube eliminates the plastic fouling accumulation and cleaning cycles, and also reduces the velocity spread considerably.

When it gets cooler, I'm going to start again with 155 gr, PC'ed, GC boolits in the 7.62X40.
As I recall, you're shooting the .458 Socom.
If I may ask, what lube have you had the best luck with?

I don't lube or check the Socom bullets, just size/powder coat/size (also size the noses for reliability after coating) and load them up. I'm using the Lee 457-500-RF with the gas check shank and stand on the bases to bake. Groups hold 3" at 100 with chinesium plastic folding buis and about 10" of sight radius.

I dont lube the BLK either, but again I only shoot subs. I messed around with the Ace 140 bullet meant for full-power WC and BLK in 30-30 @ 2200 fps and had best results with checks and lube together, and soft bullets....like air-cooled range scrap soft.
