Going to make “speed green”

A car parked in a sunny parking lot, at a Minnesota rifle range, can become "Texas" hot in a New York Minute, LOL.

Why is your ammo in the car if you are parked at the range?
I used a lube that got a bit soft in heat for a few years. Got tired of a slimy feel to every handgun I was shooting.

Ian,
The only chance my guns/ammo will ever see 105, is if my shop burnt, or I can indeed, take them with me when I die! I need to be submerged at 80* and 90 is beer in each hand temps.

"Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company"....M.T. :p

Sometimes, if I'm a range master during organized shooting events that last all day...stuff stays in the car until the end of the day when I take my turn...or something like that.

Well.....I decided w the help on this thread and much thanks to private messages from brad that I would just make bens red. The issue for me was being able to make this stuff without having to pay shipping on alox 350 or cooking a batch that maybe a beginner has no buisness doing at first so I made some last night. Pulled it out of the freezer this morning and I’ll see what it’s like a room temp and maybe to a test w it inside of my truck and see how it is then.

Special thanks to Ben for his recipe for bens red and thank you all again.

you can modify Bens red to suit your needs too.
I know [well think pretty positively] Ben has made some recent batches with @10% more beeswax.

I was thinking the way mine was behaving (not knowing any better to what constancy is acceptable or necessary) that I could just maybe stand to be just a little more stiffer.

When I made mine I understood that one cup of the beeswax pellets was 16 ounces. When I went to dump my “8 ounces” more into my batch I just filled the cup half way then sprinkled it into my reduced mess and stired stired stired and made me wonder “if I only weighed that out I know for certain I would have added 8 ounces” but no biggie anyway.

From what I read the formula is pretty forgiving, you might accidently over heat it (I assure you I didn’t), and it’s pretty easy to make as it’s no real special process. That being said I might try it how it is if it does a in the truck test and passes pretty well (yesterday my truck got to be about 95 degrees inside so that’s what I’m basing it off of) and if not might just add in 10 percent more beeswax to a smaller batch and test them side by side.

My buddy uses it just how the ingredients are mentioned and has no issues shooting it out of his 38-55 in the summer or winter so it might be just fine and this was super fun.

When I did mine I used a wide/somewhat shallow pan that came w my turkey fryer kit that ensured that I could distribute heat across a larger surface area, be able to monitor how well it’s consituted over here compared to over there, and it wasn’t my wife’s haha. I did admit it was hard not using one of our not so loved kitchen pans of hers to create a double boiler set up but figured “if Ben didn’t use a double boiler I won’t and I’ll just make sure my heat isn’t super direct in the middle of my pan and I’ll do my best to distribute the heat best I can.”

I also used my turkey fryer burner to do this. I turned my flame down low low and used 2x4 wood pieces to elevate the pan above the fryers rack a additional 4 inches so I didn’t create a super hot spot.

Must say this was pretty easy to do. I premeasured my atf and my Johnson’s and my stp in a volume cup that also is measured in ounces on the other side so I could dump all 3 in a one time.

smiling to myself.

yeah it's a lot easier than most people make it out to be.
but now that you've figured that out.
the warning is:
10 lbs of lube is pretty much a lifetime supply,, it's easy to exceed that just goofing around.
write down what you do, so that when you have it fixed for you,, you can duplicate it from scratch.

Haha I said to myself I’m going to make another batch. Just for the halibut. Your right though. I might just make another batch and call it good for a long while. My 38-55 has quite a bit of lube grooves. My friend laughed and said 3 lbs will last you a long while.

Do you put a few pats on the halibut as it goes into the oven, or just melt some in a small dish
for dipping each bite?
