Grams/Grains

My boy called today and asked what the difference is between Grams and Grains? I could not come up with an answer. So, I thought I would ask here. He wants to buy a set of weights to check his powder scale and when he looks on line most (if not all) the weights available show as Grams.

There are 15.4324 grains in one gram. My check weights are 50 gram. That equals 771.62 grains.

Grains are an apothecary system measure of weight

There are 453.59 grams in a pound and 7000 gr in that same pound

What Ian really likes is lube recipes using ml and grams. The metric system does make percentages pretty simple.

I have an Ohaus triple beam balance scale I bought at a gun auction many years ago. It's set up for grams, probably why I got it for $10. I looked up the conversion, in both directions, and with a simple cheapy calculator, or even a pencil and paper!, I've been able to use it. If you can convert decimals to fractions or fractions to metric, grains to grams/grams to grains isn't a big deal.
