Had a great time with my boy today…

He‘s back after 3 months at college and he left when I was in the middle of viral meningitis so we didn’t get to spend much quality time together this summer. Today we went to my mil’s to put a gate back up that fell over due to a rotted post. We had some old utility poles there so I went to cut a piece of one while my son started digging a new hole. We had to take the gate bolts out of the old pole and reinstall them in the new pole. He got the hole dug and together we placed the ridiculously heavy post in the hole and hung the gate. Looks better than new!

I was thinking on the way home how much I enjoyed the project. It was hard work and I would normally say shooting is a lot more fun. But dang it, I was with my boy and can’t think of anything I’d rather do! Of course the other side of the gate is the same type of crappy pole that rotted and fell over on the other side after 9 years so we’ll be doing this again next summer… :)

Time with the kids is good, no matter what. My daughters both want to come home and "help with that," regardless of what comes up. They do visit, but they really seem to want to be involved in a project of some sort. It really is "quality" time when you do constructive things together.

I can't think of anything much better than knowing your kids actually like being with you and working as part of the "tribe" again, after they've gone off and started their own. I guess if we wanted to wish someone well, wishing that upon them would be the apex of well-wishing.

Glad you shared that. Made MY day better.

I knew my Dad better as an adult but didn’t really know him as a kid. I’ve made it a point to not miss any of my kids experiences while growing up. They are only THAT age they are in for that moment and you never get it back. It’s obviously harder when they become adults but I’m still going to spend as much time as I can with them.

So many times when your kids and grandkids finish school they move away due to their jobs or marriage or whatever.
I am so fortunate that all of my children and grandchildren live right here in the same county. My oldest grandson is building a home just 4 blocks from my home and he and his wife are expecting my first great grandchild in April.
Ahh, the good life.

That’s awesome Rocky! I don’t think I’m going to get lucky like that. But then I think warmer weather would be better for my better half‘s health so we’ll probably be headed south.
