Handle for Hock Knives

The paring knife has an Arizona Black Walnut handle. The other knife, Mesquite from a piece of firewood. The large knife has not entered the rotation yet. The paring knife is very good, gets used daily as the patina on the carbon steel blade shows. Very sharp. The handles are one piece, I cut the slot for the blade on the table saw with a couple of passes. Hock plane blades are really good to. His wares seem to be handled by Lee Valley now.

Nice! I knew about Hock plane irons but did not know they had knife blades.

Prices look decent, but out of stock until December. I think I'd like to have one of those paring knives for genera outdoor use.

Love O1 as a knife blade too!

Nice work on the handles!

That pearing knife has all the looks of a lifetime of good service.
I remember as a kid after loosing my favorite old carbon folder looking at the new blade and wondering how long it would take to get it looking right. Mom said, "Stick it in an apple every night".
Amazing how much wisdom mom's had stored up.

Pretty much everything Lee Valley carries is good stuff.

Very much so!

I bought a dovetail saw from them, under their line, a few years ago after researching a great deal, looking at antiques to refurbish to brand-new $300 saws. By the end of my search, I ended up with a $60 saw they market exclusively and that saw is an absolute joy to work with.

I've bought many tools and bunches of cool do-dads from them and never been displeased.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Their store is in Ottawa, about 60 miles north of me. I was always going to go, but with the Kung Flu and everything I put it on hold. Canada is not very friendly country anymore.

@JWinAZ , you just cost me $45!

THANK YOU!

I have a paring knife coming and it won't be relegated to mess-duty, it's going outside with me.

Lee Valley showed them in stock when I looked later and I dallied for a couple days before deciding I better grab one. "OUT OF STOCK" immediately after I placed my order, so I guess I got the last one until the end of this year.

BAHHH! FOILED AGAIN!

My shipping notification for the paring knife indicated out of stock, but the pocket magnifiers I ordered to round up to a "free shipping" total shipped. They have no idea when they will get the knives in again.

I called Lee Valley, and, as always, they wer very decent about it. Cancelled the order for the knife, but the pocket magnifiers are already on their way, but they said they'd honor the free shipping and send a return label if I wanted. I'll keep the pocket magnifiers and save them the return shipping. Always a pleasure to work with Lee Valley, even if it doesn't work out.
