I bought some seconds from Sierra a couple of years ago and they were better than those.

Sierra seconds were a staple when I was growing up. Just a short drive over to Santa Fe Springs, Last price was 50cents a lb.
Course that was when that blasted peanut farmer was in office.
I sure wouldn't pay 25cents a lb for those.

I thought Sierra bought Barnes Bullets from the remington bankruptcy sale? Sierra is roughly 3 hours Northeast of me, but I've never been to the plant or Starline next door. Been meaning to get over there sometime and take a tour.

I don't select the J-words used in my rifles, the rifles do the selecting. My current rifles strongly prefer Nosler bullets, both Partitions and Ballistic Tips. Most of my J-word shooting gets done in 22 caliber, the larger bullets are 95% castings.

To that end, In dropped $270 yesterday on Roto's 87/12/1 alloy. Let's get this party started, Kalifornistan!

they aren't lead.
the mix is bismuth-tin-antimony.
listed as a legal shot-shell mix for waterfowl and upland bird hunting.

as I remember the whole sequence.
rem. bought sierra just a couple of months before their bankruptcy, sierra managed to escape the whole thing with a buy back by the former owner and was able to acquire Barnes since Remington literally bought them a few days before filing.
I don't know how the whole thing worked out, but the prices surely look like they need a higher profit margin to make it work.

I miss the Nosler .270 150gr solid base. I've been hoarding them for almost 20yrs. Finally ran out in 2019. Got a 5 shot one hole group at 100yrds outa my 1974 Rem 700 that measured .429dia. I know because I laid the target flat on the bench and put a .428dia .44-40 bullet into the hole and lifted the target straight up. then i pinned the target on the wall of the garage and the silverfish ate it.

If those Sierra Tipped Matchkings are 4 years old, isn't that about the time they started making them. An email with the lot number should help.

Yeah, shooting/hunting/casting has been done in fits and starts for a while around here. Some odd lots of 223 brass I found in the Bear Habitat recently will be the new homes for those 22 bullets you sent my way. In fact, I just sized them (.225") and gave them some Canauba Red in the grooves with their red-coat Hornady end caps. The green PC bullets will find their way into 22-250 loads at some point.

True that.

I just wish they'd sell "forever" postage stamps in the various flat rate box denominations so I could just slap one on and stick it in my mailbox whenever rather than have to drive to the P.O. on my dinner break.

I'd also appreciate a "mini" box for $4.65, about 2x2x4".

CV93X62 - I used to come through Redlands a lot. We had a house in Arrowhead that burned in the Cedar Glen fire I think in '03 or '04. Then my parents bought a place in Cherry Valley just past you.

Kalifornistan sucks but I sure love my Mojave desert and my salary! Gonna get out of here in a couple years and happily cast and shoot bullets till I'm dead in a free state. Born and raised here but can't afford to retire here.

Back to the original post, I bought several batches of Sierra seconds in the past. 123 gr stuff for 7.62x39. The only problem I could find was the canulure was not consistent in distance from the ogive. This made seating all the same length problematic.

I have the USPS web site saved and print my own flat rate labels at home.

Only way to go- print them at home. Even plain paper and tape works well.
I ain’t got time to wait at the PO. Print at home and just drop in the box in the lobby at the PO and head back to living.
