So, I had two Dr's today and second was close to a ol buddy of mine. He has been collecting lead for me. We met and he gave me two blocks about 30/35# each from another buddy who is a aviation mechanic. He said it was ballast from a plane??? Dont planes try to be as light as possible??? Anyhow its appears dead soft as easily and deeply marked with a thumb nail. Then about 18/20# of COWW and a 6" lead 45° pipe. Dosen't feel very heavy, maybe 5#.

Happy day!

Aircraft do use ballast. It sounds crazy but some designs use mass to help balance or stabilize some components, typically control surfaces.
Large aircraft usually accomplish this by using weight that must be in the design anyway but smaller planes sometimes just use a chunk of something dense (like lead).

Ever watch a KC135 get balanced? Interesting project. Balance and center of gravity must be located.

hmm blocks of soft lead that may or may not have 1-1.5% antimony in them.
your not gonna leave them unattended near the garage door are ya?
I almost did just that!!! Herd a raket and realized it was raining ICE and I had left lead by Garage door!! :p ;)
