I hate getting old!

The last 2-3 weeks my revolver shooting has gotten shameful. Tried different loads, different bullets anything I could think of. This morning started out the same way, there was no way the bullet couldn't hit my 6X6 swing plate at 25 yards but it just wouldn't. So I pulled my cheap drugstore 1.5x reading glasses out of my shirt pocket and by golly the sights looked really sharp but the target was a fuzzy mess. I started hammering the plate with 6 grains Unique and whatever cast bullet I had stuffed in my .357 cases. My groups wouldn't win any prizes but the old plate bounced at the shot every time. I know at 77 I should think about hanging it up but it's just too darn fun.

As long as you have your wits about you, there's no reason to give up shooting. How about one of those inexpensive, compact "reflex" red dot sights? I'm sure a mount could be cobbled together for a revolver, and if anyone makes fun of you for it you can tell them that when THEY are 77 they likely won't look nearly as good as you do!

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
Stay with as long as you can, hope I'm able to when I'm your age.

Rex, with some practice, you may find that you can shoot better because you can't see the target clearly. Now you have to focus on the sights!

Dillon Precision and I'm sure others offer Reverse Bifocals shooting glasses. The main part of the lens is set up for shooting and the rest of the lens is the normal grind (mold?). There similar to your drugstore glasses but for shooting. I dont remember them being terribly expensive.

Fun isn't it!
I found that reading glasses worn over my real glasses helped with pistol shooting

I would suggest a trip to an optometrist.

I have blended bifocals . I think maybe it is an asset being able to lens manipulate 2 sights and shooting the pumpkin on a post 6:00 hold I can see most of the target .

Not sure what my specs are called, but they have lenses graduated from distance at the top to reading at the bottom, the frames have an adjustable bridge which helps when prone rifle shooting.Even if you think your eyes are fine,it is worth a check up,there could be undiagnosed problems that need attention.

Give that first item listed a look-see. Would that help? I am leaning toward a similar remedy.

No one can focus their eyes in three planes at once. You gotta choose one, so make it the front sight. I have always prided myself in my ability to use open iron sights on rifles, handguns, and duty shotguns (slugs). As I add summers to my life resume, that work with open irons is degrading a bit. Aperture sights still work GREAT, though.

That link doesn't work, hasn't in a very long time. At least for me anyways.

Never quit

If possible that's how I do things

Shooting with less than stellar accuracy is better than being a workin chump.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
There are a couple of options similar to the Merit discs out there. I haven't tried any yet, but I do know if I put a pin hole in tape and tape it to some clear glasses I can see the sights and target better. I even have to wear glasses to shoot a scope now! Can't even see the crosshairs without them. I would go to an eye doc/glasses guy if I knew what to ask for. Not much chance he's going to be able to let me sight a handgun while he plays with the lens doo-hicky.

Might ask! Mine let me bring my 03A3 and worked up the best compromise for bench rest and offhand.

I'm not going to quit, hell I shoot with guys that are worse than me. Remember the stories of the old Indian fighters that saved one round for themselves rather than be captured? I'm saving one for the nursing home. :p
