I think I will give up driving

At large, whereabouts unknown.
Ric summed up part of the problem a hell of a lot more diplomatically that I could have. Consider us "intergrated". Social media is an unnecessary evil on the road as well. "Distracted" driving should carry the same penalties as any other impaired type of operation does.

Rodmkr,
Since I have been ( so called ) Retired; I have great pleasure following posted speed limits to a "T"! Making perfect 90 degree turns at intersections and Only pulling in to a left Lane at an intersection when the painted lines are open!
This drives the idiot drivers nutz! and I love it! Oh Yes I pull to the side and stop for emergency vehicles behind me! seems that none of the new drivers do this! Probably too busy texting!
And you know what really ticks me off Is seeing a brand new Accura pass me with a driver with a GD cell phone to his ear! I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot...yes I talk on my cell phone hands free through my bluetooth radio system I'm sure Modern vehicles have way better systems but these AH's have the phone on their ear!

That's so funny. Reminds me of an event back in the 80's.
Had a fellow at work while parking his older steel bumper s10. Hook himself to my hitch once. I had his truck half way out of his parking space before I realized he was attached. Let the air out of my back tires, got it loose, then drug the air hose out of the shop door and filled them back up. He was out on a parts run, so I just left his truck sitting that way. He never did ask what happened.

Similar BIG hitch funny. About 5 yrs ago. Had left the RV hitch on for no reason. December/HS finals/picking up youngest son. It JUST SO HAPPENED to be "the Day the World was supposed to END!" We are just leaving the HS/kid has his nose in his phone - OF COURSE! Right turn lane/waiting on traffic to stop/kid in rice burner behind us is watching light turn (and not me, in front of him!) while I am making sure traffic will actually stop. Kid behind sees green and goes. Hits hitch. As it is attached to the frame, there was no crunch, but one hellova Ka-CHUNK - felt all along the truck frame. I knew what it was. But, for an instance, MY Kid almost freaked! He thought the World really WAS coming to an end! Still about piss myself when I think about it. It was hilarious!

Now my question of the guy that gouges his shins or knee on my hitch is "why were you walking so close to my truck that you could run into it ? " .

Oregon Highway 199 between Grants Pass and the California state line is rated the 13th most dangerous in the US.
I have to drive this road on a regular basis.
Defensive driving is definitely in order.

Chuckles! Memories!
I was driving that that stretch of 199 a few years ago. In the middle of the road was a sedan that was completely engulfed in flames. No one inside it that I could see. No one on the road. No other cars. Nothing. I had the wife and kid in the car with me so I kept my distance and called it in. About fifteen minutes later up the road I passed Fire Trucks going towards the fire.

That would be the Illinois Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. In the early 70's I was on that Fire Dept. Never took us 15 minutes to get anywhere within our district.

heh, I'd love to see them get the hitch out of the Bronco.
I damn near shut the power off to my side of town trying to get the hitch out of the receiver when I first got it.
yeah, I was jerking it against the power pole.

Mrs. Bisley and I were in TX last February during the big sleet storm. We watched the coverage of the pileup on I-35 mixing bowl above(?) Fort Worth, as semis came piling into cars and six people died in the carnage. Those whom I met asked me how to drive in such conditions without an accident. I told them two things: In snow, you go slow. In ice, you DON'T. Last fall, we saw the signs on the roads announcing 2400+ deaths on the highways for the year, and that was in October.

Drove I-94 from NW Indiana to Milwaukee two years back when a snowstorm hit. Semis barreling past us, only to jacknife a few miles up the road in a big green puddle of coolant. I mentioned this to a truck driver in our church that evening. He told me that it was cheaper for the insurance to cover the damages than to arrive late. No -- seriously. He said this with a straight face.

The wife hates having the hitch installed on the Suburban. I’ve been scolded on more than a few occasions during crabbing season for not taking it off.

Well no disrespect to that organization, and maybe it was only 12 or 13 minutes. I remember we were driving north from California into Oregon. The road had flattened out and we weren’t in the red woods anymore when we came upon that car fire.

I ran just pickups for a long time . I we were loading something the gate was down . UTV maybe , been driving those for 15 years .

Actually since moving to the green belt and my folks having had 3-4 hitches stolen I don't leave them in anymore without something hooked to them .

Every state has a few strange laws .
Nevada has a law that fines you $125 for spitting on the sidewalk .
As late as 2002 San Francisco prohibited shooting jack rabbits from the trolley cars .
