I've got a line on an old Ideal 25783 mould with handles for 55 bucks, I can't find a dollop of info about it online. I got a picture of it, but that's about it. Any info would be appreciated, I do know it's nominal diameter is 0.257"received_734697614901943.jpeg

Ideal and Lyman imprinting can be a bit hard to read--esp. as our arms shorten with aging. #257283, not #257-83. Alrighty then.

RCBS makes (or made) a similar design in their line of 'Cowboy' moulds, the 25-85-CM. I have one of these, and it does good work in my 25/20 WCF, but is velocity-limited to black powder performance. Up to about 1300 FPS it runs very well, but between 1300 and 1400 FPS it goes galley-west and prints about Improved Cylinder at 50 yards. 7.0 grains of IMR-4198/Rem #6-1/2 primers has been its best load, it will hold about 1.25" at 50 yards from my Marlin 1894CL and aperture sights. Bump the coal up to 7.5 or 8.0 grains (following Ross Seyfried's black powder cartridge equivalency formula) and the slugs 'Go Shotgun'. Gas checked Lymans #257420 and #257312 stay accurate well past 1700 FPS in this same rifle, FWIW.

Thanks guys, I was only given the info from the seller, he had it marked as 25783, no wonder I couldn't find it anywhere. I've only got one 25 cal to shoot and it's a 256 Win Mag. This bullet needs seated to deeply for my use.

Thanks!

the little 25 cal's seem to like the lighter bullet weights.
i got a plain base 72gr. rapine mold i use in my 25-20 on top of AA-2230, with SR magnum primers.
but,,,,
even lighter seems to work better in most of the little cases, @50~60grs. does real good in most all of them.
besides nobody would think to use something ridiculous like that load above.

Helped a friend some 20 odd years ago who a 92 in 25-20. Would not shoot a similar PB bullet to save his soul, simple put it simply, a waste of time, effort and component, the only bright spot he/we learned what not to try Tried various loads from 1000 fps up to 1400-1500. Now, feed it any GC bullet sized .258, 5 shots = one big hole at 25. At 50 it shot better than any of our 22LRs.

Yeah, I agree, I already said I wasn't interested in it once I realized it wasn't what I wanted for the 256 WM. It does look like it might be boogered
