Kow a lot of you guys like the bolt 30-30s, and I think, also the pump 30-30s. LGS has a Savage 170 pump in 30-30. In very nice shape. Just wanted to pass it along. Can provide details if interested.

I never even heard of a pump .30-30. Your lgs must be one hell of a place. And no, please don't provide details because I'm really trying to save my money for something else right now and I already have 5 .30-30s. Freakin' enablers, sheesh.

These were very popular for a couple of years back in KY in the early 1970's when I was there. A perfect mate for the pump shotgun.

I believe it is based on the Stevens Model 77 shotgun. It had a good reputation in Viet Nam for dependability and strength. IIRC, they used the .410 bore magazine and lifter with a smaller ejection port. Also it was the least expensive 30/30 repeater being sold. Don't remember ever seeing one for sale here in the PNW area.

No real knowledge about the gun, but typically a gun design that only existed for a few years means
that it "has issues", usually. Before buying, you may want to research some and find out what actual
owners think about them. Could be you never see one because everyone loves theirs and will never sell,
or they could have been discontinued because they were a real problem gun in some way.

There's this other forum where the deplorable Lee lovers hang out . There's a guy ,Ranch Dog , that has a couple of them . There's a couple of threads dedicated to them . He likes them they seem to be pretty easy to find a load for and they kill hogs okay too .

Yes, I saw the very rifle a few days ago.
Not a bad rifle.

Another 30/30......I think it will be a Henry single-shot, if another trienta-trienta lands here. I palavered around too long when the Handi-Rifles were still being made, and missed out.

Quite a few Savage 170's around me. Neighbor right across the road has one, or did. I've worked on a fair number of them. IIRC there was a pin that was rather easily bent if someone, say a boy in his teens, tried to spend a good deal of time perfecting his rapid fire pumping with the rifle unloaded. Other than that they were pretty good guns. Light for what they were too.

They were based on the solid frame m67 Savage .410 pump shotgun. They also came in .35 Rem. But mostly in 30-30. They need to be pumped like you mean it every time. The weak point is the Zamak trigger group/ buttstock mount. I've always wanted to see if one could be converted to 45-70.
