Looking ta build some long range for caliber cartritages. Just Target stuff.

First is my 6mm Rem. Tbis one more of a statement as I know what Im gonna use. 107 Bergers or Sierras. Both shoot very well @ about 3100 fps. Bergers harder to get but shoot just a lil better. Sierras easy plus 500 boxes easy ta get.

Gun is a 24" 1:8 HB Howa 1500 long action re barrelled to 6mm Remington.

My 6.5 Grendel. This is where my questions are.

Im limited to about 130g cause its a small Powder cap and velocity drop is real past this weight.

First thought is the 107 SMK. Velocity advantage.

Or the 120/123 SMK.

Gun is a 20" Howa 1500. I dont have the gun. I do have a 22" but want ta build a 20" HB.

Probably 1k with 6mm but 6/750 yards with the 6.5. Unsure how much farther its viable.

Probably 1k with 6mm & 6.5/06 but thinking, 6/750 yards with the 6.5. Unsure how much farther its viable. If you have other bullet suggestions. By all means, suggest them. I have zero experience with these ranges.

Thanks fellers!

First, why a 20” barrel? I know the 100/200 BR guys like the short, stiff barrels but long range shooters use a longer barrel to get all the velocity possible. If case capacity is on the low end then maximize what ya got!

I Would spend some time with online ballistic calculators and see what does better to the targeted range.

This is a Barreled action from Brownells and this is the barrel thats offered. Its also a mini action.

But, Its a nice balance of weight and profile. I have shot and handled this. Just not owned it. This is quite efficient caliber. I do see substantial vel increases over 16/18 data with my 22". Not known what the 20 will do.

Built my son a 6.5 Grendel AR and matching bolt rifle. It is a great 750 yard round, just OK at farther. FWIW
This is what Im reading.

Also yes 100% I need to focus on charts and bullet dims combined with my velocity to know what I might see on target.
