Only .177 we have owned is a Blue Streak. Bought it about 1978 in Chattanooga. Still very accurate.
Not a Blue Streak those are Sheridans and only offered in 5mm. Probably a early Benjamin looked very similar but sold in more common .177 & .22 calibers.
I love those too!!

Our's is a Sheridan. Has a receiver sight on it. 8 pumps and it is "thwaped" out to 35 yards. Use 6 pumps for 25 yards and under.
Nice looking rack of pumpers you have there. I do like the wood rifles.
Last time north we got a .25 "barrel cocker" QT Sniper from Turkey. Heaviest chunk of wood I have ever owned. But sure packs a punch out to 50 yards..

Yup those Sheridan 20's are good and powerful! I smacked both of those Wood chucks at about 20-25 yards head shots and anyone woulda thought it was a 22 they just started doing the death rolls.

My neighbor friend had a ol Benji 22 when I was a kid 512? I dont remember but it was small. The Nickel gun in my pics is a newer '80's 177 Benji. Its owner (then) was selling it as a Silver Streak .177. I showed him it wasnt a d didnt command the $$ he was asking. But bought it for a fair cost. Its near perfect model 397.

I have a Blue STeak and a not as nice Silver Streak. I had always wanted one as a kid since they were the most powerful available at the time. I mounted a small Bushnell on the Blue Streak the other day and zeroed it for 20 yards, gonna have to get it out and squirrel hunt with it. The trigger pull is awful, at some point, I need to see what can be done about it. When we lived in Topeka, I killed a few squirrels in the yard with it.

I have heard there are places that rebuild these with new seals and such. The Silver STreak does not seem to be as powerful as it's supposed to be, maybe I need to look into it.Sheridan Blue Streak.jpgSheridan 25 yard target.jpg

CW, I like that forward mounted scope arrangement. I ended up with one of the old "Baby Redfields" with the long eye relief, I think it was designed for use on top ejecting lever rifles. I've been wondering for several years what to do with it, I may have just figured it out.

There is a few smiths that specialize in the Sheridans. I like MAC1 in California. They have worked on three of mine. I need ta get off my butt and send my Silver to him. Besides just rebuilding he does a number of custom services. I had him do a "moderator" on the last One. Its very quiet now. He does what he calls a "Steroid treatment" and it boosts power fairly substantially also re enforcing things to support that http://www.mac1airgunshop.com/mobile/

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
And once again, the gang here introduces me to things I didn't even know existed! I knew bout the Benjamins and Sheridans of course, but not that there were businesses devoted to rebuilding or modifying them. Dang man, something else I should have bought 40 years ago!

They can be pretty expensive nowadays. My Bluestreak, which is in nice shape, I got for eighty bucks. This was when .22 LR ammo was unobtainium and I was looking for ways to get past that problem. Then I was in a shop while visiting my son on the east coast and the Silver streak turned up for 35 bucks so I snagged it too.

Gonna look into MAC 1 and see about sending that Silver streak off.

How accurate do these shoot with just a few pumps, like two or three? WInter is here, si mice will be in the shop, and I don't want to put holes in the sheet metal.

If one were interested in a good air gun for taking out woodchucks...what would you guys recommend ( caliber and type) that could be acquired for around 200 to 300 $ price range or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Donyou know what kind you would be wanting?

Meaning a Pneumatic or Springer or PCP?

I like 22+ caliber for furry critters.

All three can have the umph to do the deed but some versions could be under powered.

The RWS 34 is a good candidate in a Springer. Costs should be at or just below your price range.

A PCP is gonna tax come close to your limits.

Pumpers can be under powered more then adequate. Id want 600+ fps. Sheridans (20 cal work well) Benjamins will also meet power needs.

Well I have no idea? All I have now is a Daisy ( Target Special) My Dad bought me when I was 11!
Later in life I got a Cheap Chinese Military style side lever .177 so I guess that is a springer(?) Not much fun Very hard to cock and Placing the pellet in the barrel with that arm open scares me because looks like it could cut your finger off is something failed! Also the spring bounce is very much like heavy recoil!
i don't even know what Pneumatic or Springer or PCP really means? I just have a lot of pests on my property and even though I' on the outskirts of town I do not feel comfortable using a 22 during the times of year when there isn't many leave on the trees to muffle the sound!

JW I have a 22 cal Air Force PCP (air tank that must be either pumped up or filled via scuba style tank) Woodchucks are tough critters and the 22 airgun is about the equivalent of a very accurate 22 short. It will do the job but wouldn't be my first choice. 15-19 gr. pellets at 900 fps (I can get more velocity but usually shoot it in the basement. It is not quiet either, about like a 22 short. Michigan has rather archaic suppressor laws. Illegal to hunt with, period.

I have hunted woodchucks with 22LR and Magnum, as well as 22 centerfires. Personally I don't think the LR is enough beyond small backyard range if you don't want them running down their dens. Close range chucks get the 22Mag but my all around varmint rifle is a .223R. I limit my airguns to squirrel size animals.

My Dad gave me a big .25 caliber springer, I think it says Benjamin on it, I need to check. Haven't shot it much, but did learn it'll go all the way through an exterior wall of a house (learning experience).

That is probably the one I need to make my hunting air rifle, if it's accurate, I need to work with it. Since moving out to the sticks where I can shoot whatever I want on the property, air rifles haven't bee a priority.

They are tough but that Sheridan is not quite 700fps and I shot thru there heads @ backyard distances 15-20 yards.

I love my 22 Mags on these critters too but shots to the noodle with these hi powered air guns is lethal.

We don't really have wood chucks here (yet) though I occasionally see one. I am told we are on the edge of their range and their range is increasin, so maybe someday. I've always thought they were neat little critters and likely a lot of fun to hunt. Maybe someday I'll take a trip where there are a lot of them and find out.

When I was a kid, woodchucks were everywhere and hunted them twice a day. Now they’re a lot more scarce and I ‘d feel lucry to see just one in the same fields I’d see 10 in an evening.

If I could get 20 yards from chuck a 22 shortHP would probably do it. But 75 yards with a stiff cross wind is more the minimum for me. I don't think I've ever been that close to a live chuck!
