Low Node?

I sort of coined that; Low Node is indeed subsonic shooting but it is the trying to reach the lowest speed that gives you the best group. a a given bullet / powder / rifle combination.
There are 3 nodes Low Node ( explained above ) Mid Node and High Node
Mid node would be the load / gun combination that gives you the best group for what would be considered an average load for the rifle.
High Node would be the load / gun combination that gives you the best group for what would be considered the highest load for the rifle.
The reason why you won't find it it most places is because it is something I gleaned off of this Forum from all the highly intelligent folks here.
I shoot a 50 yards at low speeds I needed a word for that and I started calling it Low Node

Thank You, JW, Nice explanation! I know I’m going to like this forum!

i'll throw some numbers out just to maybe sort of help.

JW already defined low.
we have the middle or 'normal' zone from like 1600 or so up to about 2-K.
usually more in the 17 to 1900 fps area is where those loads seem to hang out and do their best.

then i guess your high node or the no you can't do that zone.
it pretty much skips right ahead to 23-2400 fps and goes up into the 2800 jacketed speeds area.
there's a couple of 'nodes' in there that are popular, @2400 is reasonable for recoil and it also happens to generally throw the slightly smaller groups.

then it seems to jump up to 26 or 2800+ into another speed zone where the groups you lost at 2400+ start to come back together again and you have to start picking and poking at the little stuff like jump and alloy pairings to dial in the 1" groups again.

never mind powder coating... LOL
it's nodes also fall into those windows too you just end up looking at different things along the way.

Howdy Trapdoor and welcome about our place.
A Trapdoor was the first center fire rifle I bought when I got out of the "Green Machine". Still have it. A 1884 model with a 238,000 serial #. Fatest groove caliber 45 I have ever owned.

I just want to mention Low Node reloading & shooting requires strict disciplines which must be followed.
Low loads are all individually weighed to .10gr Careful attention on loading to make sure no double loads or under loads! And there are a few more but they are not safety concerns as are the firsts. Shooting: Attention to seeing each shot hit the target and hearing the report of the shot without any changes in recoil, hearing or seeing impacts All too easy to stick a bullet and blow up on the next shot!
Yes there are challenges but I love them and I love the meticulous order of discipline that adds to the excitement of putting 10 shots in one hole at 50 yards It is more of a challenge to me as much as a sport and I can shoot 300 round at a sitting without hurting my arm & neck and use the prices of 20 rounds of factory ammo for my 300 shots

I think there are two definitions being used here

There is a vibration node where the barrel the barrel doesn’t move but the area between that ‘node’ moves, and the area after it to the muzzle also whips
There are ONE of those every barrel every firings

The other ‘node’ is on the target

Starting low, increase velocity to the max

You should find a velocity where groups tighten
Increase above that groups open
Keep going faster, groups tighten up again
Keep going faster and groups open
Keep going faster and groups tighten
This will keep happening until you max out on pressure

Low node shooting is finding that first tight grouping at the lowest velocity

I'll have to incorporate this into my vocabulary.
Sounds lot more professional then "mouse fart" loads. And way more specific.
Especially for rifle.
I believe I have read that describer here, several times, but it never clicked. It just flowed so naturally with the conversation that it self defined.
Most of my loading is Low Node.
I suppose the definition could adapt to pistol shooting also.
