Lyman 450 problem

So I have fought this issue off and on for years and years. Sometimes it is worse than others. What do you guys recommend as a good gasket material to keep lube from oozing out from beneath the press? 7F548CF3-8D33-41BB-8E0C-9E490FD1B3CB.jpeg

I used a small piece of gasket material for a while. I needed to push to centernof the base up so it sealed better so I use a thin piece of brass under that section. That was a temp fix.

The real fix is.....

Hey, I can irritate your wife instead of mine. My wife will be happy and I get the fun of making your life miserable.
What isn’t to like? For me!

Hell, have her call Rick and Lamar too!

Umm. $750 isn't free Rick. ;)

Sure is. Just buy $1118.00 worth of dies, $300 worth of top punches, $47 worth of Keith's conversion all for $750 and the lubrisizer is FREE.

"New prices for each currently listed at Midway is - Lubrisisizer $270, Dies $43, top punches $20, Keith's conversion with shipping $47. Total comes to $1735.00 plus shipping. The dies alone would cost $1,118.00. Top punches alone would be $300.00."

I will say my Lyman didn’t do that for years but when it started it was a mess. There isn’t a gasket or O ring to prevent leakage like that.
The bottom has a recess where the bottom of the pressure cylinder is so it can get lose and leak like that. Key is getting that bottom disk to remain snug in its recess

This!

Until you use a Star you don’t understand. Takes a little time to learn how to get the pusher just right but once you do.......

Oh, they also are great for sizing PC bullets without lube. They don’t like heavy sizing but for .001 or so they are the bomb.

Yep, Star is number one.

As to the leaky 450:
I had one that liked to leak. I smoothed out the cast iron roughness of the entire bottom of the sizer that mates with the metal plate(heater) that I had it mounted too...much like what is in your photo. Machining it would be best (if you had a mill), but I just used a grinder and a sandpaper flap disk. Then I used a breakfast cereal box as a gasket.

Two Stars, a RCBS and a Lyman 450 on the bench. The Stars are not for everyone,
IMO. I still run a good bit of stuff through the in-out machines, and the Stars are
for large quantities, where the PITA setup is worth the time spent getting it right.

I'd screw on a 1/8" aluminum plate with some silicone sealer under it with maybe 4
countersunk 8-32 screws tapped into the frame close to the lube cavity.
