Philip nice Martini, and welcome from Alaska to the forum.
The 32S&W long is a sweet little cartridge. I picked up an old J. Stevens Tip Up that a friend rebarreled to 32 long. Rough little rifle, but shoots lights out. Lots of fun little walk around 4 pound rifle.

But, Well I’ve got a BSA beater that shoots quite well in 218 BEE. Not sure what it started out in life as, a friend sold it to me screwed a Marlin 218 barrel on it and it is what it is. I’m looking for a barrel mount base and put a Bushnell extended eye relief scope on it to help out my eyes.

Not very classy but it’s a shooter.

I could not have hoped for a better start on this Tread, lots of discussion, interesting facts and pictures!
@Spindrift I live in Halden and have all my family in Bærum, a trip to a range with a fellow castshooter would be fun. Hopefully my Vektor dsb mauser in 458x2" is done before christmas.

Nice to see all the cool rifles, there is an old saying, Only accurate rifles are interesting, accuracy over looks any day
On my way to the reloading room and will shoot some rounds over the chrono today. Will keep you posted!

The Martini Cadets are great, I like the chambering of yours. That will be a great shooter! My Cadet is an unmodified version in it's original .310 Cadet Chambering. Took some effort to get some 32-20 cases modified to make brass for it but then with an RCBs mould I was able to get it shooting. This was the first time I have dealt with a heeled bullet so that was interesting. I am amazed at how well it shoots with the Iron sights. Lots of people out there shooting these in their original chambering so there is lots of info out there. I discovered that the classic load of 8 grs. of 2400 shoots the best in my rifle and a load with Unique comes in second.

Here is my rifle. It is in really good shape for what it is and even has a nice bit of wood on it.

Intel that’s a sweet little rifle!
I regret to say I had a cadet made by Westley Richards in 300 Sherwood. Rifle was in nice shape, wood was dark but a nice piece, pistol grip takedown rifle. This was a long time back and not realizing what I had I sold it a a gunshow as I had become frustrated with trying to get it to be a shooter as the only brass was made by Burtrum and it was junk. Another gun that regrettable was sold that should have just been placed in the back of the safe until I acquired more knowledge.

Did som measuring in the reloading room today with the missouri bullet co 100gr FN sized down to .311. Tried to take pictures of a case sized with a old set of rcbs dies i have. The die sizes det bullet portion more than rest of the case. Hopefully this sort the issue the former owner had with neck tension. I use the Noe 308-312 expander.

I dont know if the picures are good enough but the throat seems short, maz oal with the 100gr fn is 1.213"

It sounds like you’re building a 458x2 American? Nice you will like it.
I built one on a Remington 660 magnum, or a better description is I simply had it rebarreled and a Decelerator recoil pad added.
IMG_2681.jpeg
Three Remingtons, top a 660 rebarreled to 260 Remington, the bottom is. 600 in 308 complete with the vent rib.
The center rifle is my 458x2, a 22 inch barrel and a great scope for tough conditions and tough critters. It’s a Leupold VX-6 1x6 power, 30 mm tube, but the beauty is that at 100 yards the field of view is 110 feet. And it’s bright. Anyway I built it for the big bears.
Took my Father and Brother after coastal Browns back in the 80’s and I was carrying a 458 magnum built on a Mark 10 action, 25” barrel and a Lyman receiver sight. Long story short the gun was long, and heavy at 11 pounds all up. After we were try to move up on a good size bear and having to crawl through some very thick Alders in which I could not have brought that big gun into action in a hurry if needed, well long story short when I got back to town I sold that rifle, bought the 660 which had a 6.5 Remington magnum barrel when purchased and took it to Peacock my Gunsmith and got the 458x2 in the works. I had killed to black bears with the 458 magnum and liked it just fine, but not for tight conditions. The 660 458x2 weights in at just under 8 pounds with scope unloaded and total overall length is 41.5 inches. I have confidence that that cartridge will take care of anything walking in this country, or the planet for that matter.
It’s basically a hot 45-70.
Bullets I’ve used are Barnes 300 and 400 grain semi spizer originals and the 350 grain all copper spizer.
In cast I’m working on the LEE 500 grain semi pointed and the 370 semi pointed by Arsenal. Will be working on these two loadings this next summer.
The short action of the 660 and the blunt 458x2 end up requiring a semi pointed bullet to feed reliably.

As a side note my wife’s family is from Hurdal, Norway. Karyn writes fairly often and also Face Book. The family name is Indgjerding shortened to Indgjer on this side of the pond.

Nice looking rifle. I like it.
by the pics I would size the bullet down another thou and try that.
It looks like it is shaving lead. You need it to be just rubbing.

If you take the innards out you can pour a short slug in chamber end and see what you are dealing with.
Dont make it longer than the gap of the breach block thou.:D
what size scope is that one?

Those little "Marksman" / "Maynard Junior" rifles are fun little things. A friend had one with a rusted out 22LR barrel that I put a used Marlin Model 60 barrel in, after a little lathe work. Made two new pins/screws to tighten it up. If kept greased, they will last forever. And it shot well when done, and he was very happy with it.

@Barra I think you are on to something, will try to get a hold of a .309 sizer, i have some soft lead i can carefully knock into the throat to get some better measurements of the throat and transition.

the scope on the first picures are a leupold fx-2 scout 2.5x28 in talley mounts. I have since that picture had my gunsmith mount a picatinny rail and mounted a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40.

i think your looking to do a pound slug.
'Ians basement' somewhere round here has a pretty darn good description of how and what to do.
That pound cast should be ideal for a martini since you don't have strait line access to the chamber.

@Tom I had the gunsmith ream up the cleaning hole on the action to about 6mm so i can clean from the chamber end. It was this way i used a soft .313 bullet to knock backwards into the throat.

Not much progress today, all the vendors in Norway are out of lee .309 sizer. Cleaned the bore so thought a couple of pictures would be good. In the first picture you can se the enlarged cleaning rod hole.

The suppressor is a Custom pistol silencer bored for .30 bullets and without a Nielsen device, perfect for a small subsonic .30
