Got one with the little plastic box it came in. While I don't use it that often, it does the job and I have it on a pair of dedicated shooting glasses (Rx). Well worth the price or you could do the 'pinhole' thing!

For the tape and hole method I would use a pair of the Foster Grant $9.00 readers , that's what I use with the Merit . I use them anyway , 1.5 for driving , shooting and reading in good light . I use 2.75 for reading indoors and 3.75 for tying flies .

had 2 lost both . think I paid $75.00 back when, $100 was hard to swallow but glad to have one again, Lobster meat is $90.00a lb and is a consumable, guess my wife is going to have to wait on her next couple of lobster rolls

Update: It's and old time product. I could never get the suction cup to work. Merit's rest in the tool box drawers where sights and sight parts stay,

My original one was my grandfathers before it was mine and I've had it for 50 some odd years , all original and still works like a champ. Never had any issue with the suction cup.

You can get new suction cups from Merit.

The Merit is retired and is happy in it's nest with the rest of the sight gear. Like the old time people say the game is not worth the candle. To me it's and expensive gizmo. I have other shooting demands for my attention that take precedence over getting the Merit fixed.

The Merit kept me shooting for several years when without it I would have been finished. They are amazing devices.
Our experience is different. I'm glad that the Merit kept you shooting. I suspect the Merit aperture for receiver sights kept many others shooting in the day.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I just got a Merit, haven't had a chance to use it yet. I have used a similar pretty cheap and crappy fixed hole version. It's night and day for me! The whole focus length or whatever it is that the tiny hole fixes made it near impossible for me to shoot a handgun with the accuracy I used to take for granted. Now I at least have a chance. I'd love to be able to afford the inserts for all my recvr sighted rifles, but I'd need a whole big buncha them.

I thought I would revive this thread with new info. I spoke with the owner of Merit last Wed. Some Wilton shooters were looking to buy Merits. Ed answered the phone and we talked a bit about gun sights. He is currently not making them. He got a new job on the railroad and the demands to his time from work and life leave no room for making sights. But he has not abandoned the business and said he feels pangs of guilt over not making them. He said to call him in the spring as he thinks he'll start back up again if nothing gets in the way. I even offered to make parts and assemble sights for him for free, so Wilton guys could buy sights. He did not even respond to that offer. Just repeated, "Call me in the spring."

I'll try to remember to call him come spring. Somebody remind me if I don't.
