micro sights on auto pistols

I am interested in putting one of the new micro red dot sights on either my Ruger American or S&W M&P. Where would i go to figure out what base is needed to attach what red dot i am interested in? Would i start by contacting the dot manufacturer?

You can likely have the slide milled to fit the optic of your preference.

Some models have no gun smith mounts you can use too. Might be better option if your on the fence or "offended" by cost of milling.

They referred to as reflex sites. I like them for competition and "fun". But not for carry.

When i wrote my thread i was on line with Optics Planet looking at RDs. I went to their conversation line and asked what they had to make a RD compatible with my weapon. They have lists of what bases work with what dot sights and what weapons.
The base they had for my S&W 2.0 M&P doesn't need a Gun Smith to install. Just take the rear site off and install the base.

When I was looking for a base for my RIA 1911, this was the only place that had (or knew) what I was talking about. Tell any of the other “gun accessory places” that you need a mount that fits a Novak dovetail and they say “A What???” EGW knew what I needed and after a couple of email replies from them I ordered the base I needed and it was perfect. If I buy another red dot site, I’ll get it and the base from them. They were wonderful to deal with.

Just get a good one. I tried a see-all and normal reflex, not practical for me. 50 yds on 308W still pretty bad. Optics are cheaper to make but housing is where the $ are. Good plastic is as good as glass. Basically a LED shining through a pinhole and reflected off a collimator coating you can see through. I shot GK's on AR15 3x (tube type) and it was OK. 1x doesn't do me much good. Didn't shoot with prescription glasses, be sure to try if you use them.
