Moden Savage BR Barrels

Ok I posted this here because I'm not sure where it goes:
I have a shooting friend...Actually my oldest Brother's Friend who is still shooting ( 80 +).
He offered me some of his slightly worn Savage BR barrels ( No problem for Fat cast Bullets)
However I only have the old Savage nut and thread for my 340 and these are for savage modern actions
Is it possible to re-thead these barrels for my old action or would it be cheaper to take the barrels and buy a Modern action that they would fit on?

I'm with Waco, buy a newer one. I own two older (pre accu-trigger) Savages a 110 and 11 both left hand. The triggers adjust to a decent 3# and the price is right.

I like the new axis over the regular 10 series. The bolt handle is about the only thing that you have not been able to get aftermarket. You can get knobs but no the whole handle. The reg 10 series has no primary extraction built in the handle. The axis does have it on the handle. So bolt handles cant be swapped between the two. Barrels and bolt heads are the same.

Another option is to simply thread it to fit another action. Not sure how long the barrel is, but you could cut off the shot-out section, then rethread and then rethread and rechamber. Unless the caliber was so hot that it buggered the entire bore, you'd pretty much have a brand-new Savage barrel.

A cheap as you can find use Savage rifles out there, I'd say buy a more modern action.
That's the problem. I can't find them cheap anymore. I should have never let go of my 308 cabelas exclusive that I got for 349.

Everything I find now days is in the 500s. So if you guys have a line on a cheap used savage, I'm all ears.

How is the basic axis action as compared to the 10/110s? Let's say stripped down to just the bolt no trigger.

Take the bases or screws out before you unscrew the barrel the first time on the axis of the cost cutting will fall out and gall the threads . Then you gotta call on a professional or spend north of a 100 for a correct tap/chase to fix it . If you go pro cut the front ring off and buy a new recoil lug ring . Aside from that and the design changes for machine steps a 60' 110 is a 2020 110 and so is an Axis . Triggers and firing pin spring are probably the biggest changes that have been made . I forgot about the LG/SM barrel shank . Basically it's a SM shank if it wasn't WSM or ilk when new a post 95' 284 Win may have also been LG shank . To my knowledge the standard belted weren't put in t LG shank . You should be able to find a bare bones model for around $300 . The axis stocks suck so a call to Boyds is in order . I had one of the beech stocks on a short action 110 308 , it was a great shooter also .

Don't forget about the Stevens branded rifles .

I would avoid the center center feed versions and look for a stagger feed long action for maximum utility .

Axis is a round receiver with a port. The 10 series are split bridge type like most a;; bolt actions. I just like the looks of them better. I had a spanner wrench that fit the smooth barrel nut. Mine had a round hole in it. And it fit my wrench perfectly. So I did not have to buy a new nut. But I did already have a couple of them from other builds. So I used one of them when I put it back together.

Not the best pic but here is the Axis in a Boyds stock. You can't see it but I have a Badger Ordinance FTE muzzle brake. I sent the barrel to RWS Ross Shuler that makes 3 port muzzle brakes on multiple forums. He only charged me like $25 and shipping. I have had him chamber and thread a few barrels for me. I guess he gave me a break for sending him work multiple times.

The trigger is the factory one that I shimmed for slop and stoned the sears and changed the springs. It breaks at a very clean 1.5lbs.
