Modern gun opener 9 pt.

2018 modern gun season opener!! After getting to the stand late ,and bumping deer from abot 50 yards from my stand.
I figure I messed up my morning hunt, but got up in my perch.
About 30 or so mins. I hear a close shot. Thinking it may be my Dad I go investigate. Upon arriving at his stand.... no Dad?
I hear noise up near his house . I go up to see what's up, and check on him. We visit and have some coffee and He says " I gotta run to town, Go kill a big one son"! He leaves and i head back for my perch. Every ****** squirrel has me flinching like a rookie
Hunter this point . I arrive and get settled in.
As I assumed I was sitting watching squirrels and thought I may have heard deer foot steps.
I dismiss my audible paranoia and reach for my phone. Good service, then none. It aggravated me. So after some cussing, I put it up and there he stood broadside at 80 yards, no idea I was seeing him.
Gun up, crosshairs on the shoulder, BANG!!!! He did the Death Jump and ran almost right at me. My stand was shacking like a dog ******** peach pits. He got hung up on a thick briar patch 20 yards from my stand. End Of the line for him.
Gun: Reminton 788 chambered in 30-30
Load: 174gr. Lachmiller checked and PC'D with Smoke' s clear gloss, over 20.5 gr. IMR 4198.

Winelover

North Central Arkansas
Congrats. Wasn't roll up sleeve weather, in North Central Arkansas. Was 24 degrees with 10 mph winds out of the north. I didn't even bother to go out. My arthritic joints can't take that kind of cold weather, anymore..............even though, I lived in Michigan for 60 years.

Only reason for the rolled up sleeves , was I was hotter than blazes, and the adrenaline was still pumping. Lol. I used to live in NW Pa. Just south of Erie. I know about the Cold you speak of, and I sure don't miss it.
