Mold Epiphany/caliber application!

Mold Epiphany/caliber application last two days. You may recall awhile back I was attempting to get the RCBS 32-98 to work in 32-20s. Basically a No Go, and, iirc, Ric called out to me that this mold was for the 32 Magnum, and not at all for the 32-20 (ps: I figured that last part out pretty well solo!, but great of Ric to confirm I wasn't an idiot)! Posted the mold and bullets up for sale; local kid wanted them/never followed through; still have them.

Last couple weeks, ramping up for loading 38 SPC/38 S&W/32L. I have prob 10ish revolvers collectively. Re-reading/researching loads for the 38 S&W and 32 L. Lo and behold, I keep seeing Taffin/Fryxell talking 32L/RCBS 32-98. WAIT a MINUTE - I HAVE that one, AND was going to part with it. I just never thought that the longer nose profile would work in the 32 L if it was too long in the 32-20.

NOPE/YES! I have now learned that the 32-20 needs a shorter overall/fatter nose bullet to make COAL. NOT SO the 32 L. The 32L COAL max is 1.280". RCBS 32-98 COAL in 32 L case (crimped in grease groove) is 1.260"!!! Walla/Eureka!!! It is perfect for ANY 32L - at least that I have (1920s S&W Reg Police/same era Colt Police Positive/S&W 30-1). PLENTY of cylinder room in all models for the RCBS. I am very happy!

And the take away us: never get rid of a mold.
Yeah. I have a bunch from an Estate, so occassionally thin the herd a little. But also keep getting more. I am finding that the estate stuff has pretty much most of the sought after molds. Very happy about that/I just need to figure out the match-up.

My problem is forget I even had the mold and go purchase another!

LEC - I USED to do that/still do sometimes! I built a spread sheet for mold inventory. Prob saved me couple $100 not buying dups!
