What Rick said. Jaw-dropping.

One thing about you, Jim, you don't have to pay a pro to photograph your work!

I put a CVA kit together one time.
I had to order extra parts twice!
Wasn't a Frankenstein, but wasn't anywhere near that eather.

Very nice work to say the least. I'm a cartridge gun guy, never got into front loaders, but the craftsmanship that goes into some, like the Dancing Moose are a joy to handle.

Well that received 5 comments about as fast as any around here. Once again, nice work.

One question Jim, what caliber? Looks like it could be a 62 which would be appropriate for the style.

As is the norm with Jim’s work, it is beautiful.

Thanks Guys! When I was building Flintlocks I never ever made a plain rifle. Even when a fellow would ask for a plain gun he always got top grade decoration ( at my expense). Figured if I was going through the amount of work of building a 17th or 18th Century style rifle....I made sure it would leave my shop as fancy as I envisioned it, while I was working with it. On average I would put 200 to 500 hours into building one; (I don't use power tools except a drill press; so I can drill on centers)
When you spend that much time on a rifle it becomes a part of you, I guess, ..... Plus I really suck at "simple incised carving" Can't do it to save my life but "raised relief carving" comes natural to me. The truth is I never even practiced it. Just started in on my first gun I built in early 1980's and learned from my mistakes! Now, Metal engraving I have never mastered ( I only do hand chasing) The guys with the power engravers say it is easy....maybe, but not with the hand engraver and chasing hammer

Brad,
Correct; .62 caliber with coned muzzle! No need for a short starter!
Actually because it is a German rifle We were talking about going .72 to .75 cal on this one. But that would require a custom made barrel....Increasing the turn around time and the cost significantly.
In the last 6 years of building I pretty much only made Jaeger Rifles....mostly because One of the more elite Jaeger Units of The British Brigade ( Re-enactors) contracted me to produce a number of Authentic Rifles for their members ( And they had the funds!)
