It is nice to see it working out for you and understanding why you need to. I know you will find it a big difference for how it was before and good that the county is willing to work with you , I hope all will work out for you .
Hey Paul,
It's for sure a change of pace. With current markets it's tough to justify the effort. I've got about 140 dried beaver, some Otter, and Mink looking for a home now. Several pounds of castor a couple of buyers are bidding on. :) Sounds like Fur Harvesters is going to have an online auction in a couple weeks, so should be interesting to see where the market is really at.
This mine is 9 miles long and there are several beaver ponds on it. There was a local guy did the beaver work but he is retiring after this year, so I may bid on the contract there, since I'm already going there all the time anyway. No rest for the wicked!

Our water truck ^^ doing his thing, to keep the dust down. Love the water truck.

A big loader loading ore at the beginning of a blast pattern. Tough to see in picture, but the loader has a set of chains on the front tires, to keep the ore from cutting the tires. The chains cost $65K a set, but last quite awhile and make the tires last long enough to justify the cost.

A shovel at the beginning of a new blast pattern. We run with just our running lights on in the cuts, so the other drivers and shovel operators aren't blinded by our lights as we enter. When we leave our lights come on.

I know it is different then you use to and yes for how the market is that is why I just trap for a hobby and I like doing it . I am lucky the one I sell to buys everything I have. That is how I will sell my furs other wise they will not get them from picking what they want. I will not put up with that . You have a nice load of beavers . Hope you will do great on the casters they are up in price last I know of and you should do good. For you say about the beavers at the mine . Reminded me for when I was working at the salvage yard that I had trap on there also at the time for everything there was also beaver. I understand about working 2nd shift also , I use to like that shift also because of less problems if you know what I mean. I had ground up some coyote glands to age and drain ground up some beaver oil sacs . Will age the sacs, save the oil for the line also. Also need to make room in the freezer, for the next season. I sold all the casters , I forgot what I got a pound but for what I got total is about $60 it is from 12 beavers. Not sure on it since I lost track on it .That should help you on yours and this was back in Dec when I sold them. Looking forward to hear back for how you doing .
