Need more Cowbell, oops, more power (2x is poor at 75yds)

Well, I stoked up 48 rounds of .41 Rem Mag with 210gr .410 Berry's plated bullets, 5gr of Trail Boss and a COL of 1.67". Note to self: 5gr of TB fills the 41Mag case without tapping. After doing this, I could have gone for a longer COL as the 657 cylinder is about .2 longer.

I have a sneaking suspicion that TB doesn't quite want this degree of compression, need to review the Hodgdon TB load reference. I checked on Hodgdon for a 215 cast LFP, and Hodgdon sez 4.5 - 6.5 gr, so it most likely isn't a frag grenade.

Anyways, the first rounds were 9" high, but centered, at 25yds. Burris scope adjusted, dropped it to about 3" high. Moved to 50yds. Whoo-boy, I can see the white around the cross-hairs, but it is quite apparent that 75yds, much less 100yds, will require more cowbell, er, power.

Dropped it 3" to only 6" high at 50yds. So after I drop a 6x or 8x scope on it, I'll burn a few more 210gr TB loads to get it on paper, diddle it to 3" high at 50yds, then I can carefully use three of the $1.50 EACH rounds to verify that it is dropping close enough to minute-of-deer.

Few things for me with more cowbell is weight of the scope, field of view and shake/shootabilty.

The heavier scope is going to really test your mounts.

1.50?
I never seen any need for more than the 210gr XTP on top of 2400 in the 41 mag.
it will kill 5-600 lb cows where they stand with side/frontal shots to the head.

Umm..... hmmm..... So by the time you pay that price for 50 rounds you could have bought a mold, a pushthrough, & still been money ahead. Why with the Jax? We don't even have a section for this.

Lee, lead, and alox will handle what your doing with those hi$$$ jax. I dunno, thats how I'd do.

What? Buy ammo? That is the only thing worse than buying jacketed bullets.

Someone get a rope.

Sure, I'll immediately start casting and do load development for season which starts in 4 days...

Anyone hear of "the best is the enemy of the good"?

I need minute of deer, and I did Google Earth last night, and from my stand to the farthest I can see is about 150yds. The Platinums will be good out to 100yds dead on, and 125-150yds hold on the top.

The scope is not my preferred size, but it needs to last one round on stand.

I'm working on 2 cast loads for seasons that are already open. Have a couple others I'd like to try on range before the seasons start. Sometimes it goes, if it weren't for the last min.....

Honestly, I did the same last year & harvested a deer with the last minute cast load. Either way, good luck! No one is getting a rope, be prepared for a bit of teasing about the jax though.

Want some cheese with that whine? ;)

As I was looking for my RCBS scale check weights, what did I find but a 50 count pistol clamshell ammobox with 50 SAECO #415 220gr TCGC, unsized. Looking at them, the meplat looks bigger than I remember... :D
